Benavram Holds

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

On an {8-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop, a player in the cutoff shoved all in and Sam Benavram, who had made it 1,200 preflop from the button, shoved as well. Terry Wheeler tank-folded {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}.

Benavram: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Opponent: {k-Clubs}{6-Clubs}

Benavram had some cards to fade but the turn and river ran out clean for him and he collected the pot.

McEvoy Back Above Starting Stack

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

With {10-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Clubs} on the board, Aaron McEvoy bet 2,600 on the button and a player in the small blind called. On the {j-Diamonds} river, both players checked.

McEvoy showed {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for jacks and tens, and his opponent flung {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} into the middle in frustration.

Big River Value for Hou

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante
Brian Hou
Brian Hou

Five players saw the turn as {4-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades} hit the felt, and a player bet 2,000 from middle position. Brian Hou called in the hijack, and the two players behind him called as well. The river was a {q-Spades} and action checked to Hou. He bet 8,500. The cutoff folded but the player on the button called.

Hou showed {a-Spades}{8-Spades} for a flush and took the sizable pot.

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
Jason Vanstrom
Jason Vanstrom

Jason Vanstrom bet 2,100 on a board of {4-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} from the button, only to have his neighbor, Stephen Decker, check-raise to 7,000. Vanstrom called, bringing a {5-Hearts} river. Decker bet 10,000, nearly all of Vanstrom's remaining chips. After around a minute, Vanstrom released.

Dixon Victimized by Runner-Runner

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

Rich Dixon put in a massive overbet of 3,800, about twice the pot, from the small blind on {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades}. Terry Wheeler called on the button and Dixon fired another 7,000 on the {5-Spades}. Wheeler peeled again for the {6-Diamonds} river. Dixon checked and Wheeler bet 6,000.

"You really have a seven here?" Dixon asked incredulously. "That's what you're telling me with this bet."

A frustrated Dixon flicked in a call and saw the bad news as Wheeler's {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flush draw turned into a backdoor straight.

Welcome to Day 1c of MSPT Denver Poker Open

Golden Gates Casino Black Hawk, Colorado
Golden Gates Casino Black Hawk, Colorado

Two flights are down and one is left, the last chance for players to get in on the growing prize pool in Mid-States Poker Tour Denver Poker Open $1,110 Main Event at Golden Gates Casino in the Rocky Mountains.

A total of 205 entries have been logged thus far, so the $200,000 guarantee is no longer in question. The only questions are how big the field will get, and will anyone be able to catch the 413,000 bagged by Jim Morrison after a torrid finish to Day 1b?

Those who have yet to bag — or wish to surrender their stacks — will have a chance starting at noon local time. Another day full of 40-minute levels is on tap, with players receiving 20,000 in their starting stacks and navigating from 100/100 to 1,500/3,000/3,000.

The latter level is where play will end, with about 26 minutes remaining on the clock, unless another hard stop is reached even earlier at 12% of the field. Those who do go bust can reenter as many times as they wish until the start of Level 13.
