Ewald Sends One Packing

Level 10 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Gary Ewald
Gary Ewald

There was 27,000 in the middle in a heads-up pot between Gary Ewald in early position and his opponent in middle position. The flop read {7-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Ewald had checked and was facing an all-in bet of 30,000. He thought agonizingly for about a minute and then called.

All-In Player: {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Gary Ewald: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The all-in player improved to a pair of jacks on the turn {j-Diamonds} but that was as close as he would get to doubling as the river {q-Hearts} completed the runout and left his hand second best.

"Yes!" exclaimed Ewald as the pot was sent his way.

"Not a snap call?" asked another player at the table.

"I put him on aces preflop," responded Ewald and then proceeded to stack his chips, bringing his total up to 160,000 early in Level 10.

"Torpedo" Throttles Another One

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Justin Thurlow
Justin Thurlow

Justin "Torpedo" Thurlow just got into an all-in preflop situation from the cutoff against his opponent in middle position, who was at risk for his last 40,000 or so.

All-In Player: {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Justin Thurlow: {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

The all-in player needed to stay ahead in the coin flip situation and was unable to do so as Thurlow hit a ten on the flop on the runout of {7-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, sending his opponent to the rail and bringing him up to 185,000 along the way.

"Does Three Pair Win?"

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Justin Thurlow
Justin Thurlow

Justin Thurlow saw action folded to him in the cutoff and opened to 3,000. Both players in the blinds called and action went three ways to a flop of {k-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}. Both players in the blinds checked and Thurlow slammed a fist down onto the felt to check behind.

The dealer brought a turn of {3-Hearts} and the small blind led out for 4,000. The big blind folded and Thurlow quickly raised to 11,000. His opponent called.

The river came {a-Spades} and the small blind deliberated for a moment. He then checked and Thurlow threw out a bet of 15,000. His opponent thought for about 20 seconds.

"Does three pair win?" the small blind asked. Thurlow threw out {8-Diamonds} onto the felt and then followed it up with {10-Spades} to show ten high.

"You're good," said his opponent. "Ten ball works." With the pot, Thurlow now finds himself up to 145,000.
