Art Demmerley Bags Chip Lead as 19 Players Advance From Day 1a of the 2020 MSPT Cleveland Poker Open

Day 1a of the 2020 MSPT Cleveland Poker Open at JACK Cleveland Casino has come to an end. The action was paused with 6:00 left in level 14 due to the field reaching a size of 12%. Today saw a total of 159 entries and 19 of those players bagged chips for Day 2. This tournament is on pace to break last year's record as Day 1a in 2019 drew in 157 entries.

Art Demmerley bagged the largest stack of the day with 454,000. Ronald Payne (432,000), John Macdonald (421,000), Jeff Mirelli (246,000) and Robert Nolen (231,000) make up the rest of the top five.

Other notables that were able to bag today include Thomas Chambers (175,000) and Michael Trivisonno (131,000).

Some familiar faces that were in action today but will have to try again tomorrow include James Anderson, Nick Guagenti, Alex Barill and Christopher Moon.

Players who failed to qualify for Day 2 today will have another chance tomorrow at 12:00p.m. on Day 1b or Saturday at 12:00 p.m. on Day 1c. This will be the last chance players have to bag a stack for Day 2 on Sunday.

Lytle Cashes In On The Freeroll

A player raised to 8,000 from early position. A player in middle position called and the blinds came along as well. All four players checked the flop of {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and they went to a turn.

The {8-Hearts} fell on the turn and Greg Lytle bet 30,000 from the big blind when the small blind checked it to him. The next two players to act folded and the small blind check-raised all in. Lytle called off his remaining 77,000 and they flipped their cards over.

The {5-Clubs} fell on the turn and Demmerley led out for 30,000. His opponent moved all in for around 140,000 and Demmerley quickly called.

Day 1a of the $1,110 MSPT Cleveland Poker Open at JACK Cleveland Casino Begins at Noon

The $1,110 MSPT Cleveland Poker Open at JACK Cleveland Casino kicks off today with Day 1a. This is the first of three Day 1 flights and is set to begin at 12:00p.m. local time.

Last year's tournament broke a record for being the largest $1,000+ buy in tournament in Cleveland’s history with 725 entries. Sean Munjal was last year's champion and he took home $140,654 along with the MSPT trophy.

Players will begin with a 25,000 starting stack, and Day 1a is scheduled to play through 15, 40-minute levels before wrapping up for the night. All players are allowed one re-entry per flight, and late registration is available up through the beginning of Level 13.

The blinds begin at 100/100 with a 100 big blind ante. A 10-minute break will be given to the players after every three levels, with a 40-minute dinner break after level nine. The blinds and antes will reach 3000/5000/5000 at Level 15, which will conclude play for the day.

Players who are unable to bag chips today will have a chance to try again tomorrow on Day 1b or Day 1c on Saturday. The survivors of the three starting flights will come back as a combined field for Day 2 Sunday, and the tournament will play down to a champion.
