"I Was Hoping For A Flip"

Level 4 : 100/300, 300 ante
David Larson
David Larson

David Larson had 16,000 in front of him under the gun and was facing a reraise all in for his effective stack of 38,000 from an opponent in the cutoff. He had been in the tank for some time, requesting a clock after not much longer. The dealer complied, but Larson found a call before the floor could arrive. The cutoff quickly tabled his hand, showing {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}.

"I was hoping for a flip," responded Larson as he tabled {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} in turn. Larson remained in front as the board ran out {j-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and earned the double as a result.

Four Cards Shown Despite No Showdown

Level 3 : 100/300, 0 ante

Prior action had brought 7,500 into the middle on a board of {8-Spades}{4-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} with heads-up action between Kenny Nguyen, who was under the gun, and Jason Ginsbach on his direct left.

Both players checked the turn and the river came {q-Hearts}. Nguyen bet 1,400 and Ginsbach took less than 10 seconds to make it 6,000. Nguyen then went into the tank.

After about a minute, he asked himself if Ginsbach had ace-queen. He then took another two minutes to deliberate before asking Ginsbach if he would show. Ginsbach shook his head no.

Fifteen seconds later, Nguyen still decided he was going to fold. He dropped his cards forward and Ginsbach displayed {k-Diamonds}.

"Will you show the other if i show both?" asked Nguyen. Ginsbach nodded yes as the dealer prompted them to send their cards her way. Nguyen quickly showed {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} and Ginsbach turned over {k-Clubs} to show he had pocket kings.

"Bad river!" said Ginsbach as the laughed at how the hand ran out. "But a jack and I'm doing the same thing!" he added as more laughter ensued.
