Global Casino Champ in the House

Level 6 : 300/500, 500 ante
Andrew Kelsall
Andrew Kelsall

Back in September, the 2019/20 World Series of Poker Circuit Season – one that had been interrupted by the pandemic – came to an end with the annual Global Casino Championship, which for the first time was held online at WSOP.com.

Players qualified for the $1 million guaranteed tournament by either winning a WSOPC stop Main Event or finishing as Casino Champ. In addition, any player that won a ring during the season or finished in the top 100 of last year’s WSOP Player of the Year race had the option to buy-in directly for $10,000. Seven players opted to do just that meaning the total field stood at 130 players with a $1,070,000 prize pool up for grabs.

After 11 hours of play, three-time ring winner AJ "RandyLerch" Kelsall, who is in action today in the MSPT Venetian, emerged victorious to capture a $275,632 first-place prize and his first gold bracelet. Kelsall won his first ring back in 2015 and added two more this past season. He qualified for the Global Casino Championship as an at-large points qualifier after finishing fourth on the leaderboard with 332.5 points from 30 cashes totaling $214,326 in winnings.

Prior to the win, Kelsall had just over $1 million in lifetime WSOP-related earnings. His best live score was $124,731 for winning the 2014 Winter Poker Open at Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Bay.

As for the MSPT, Kelsall is seeking his first cash on the tour.

Heidbrick Wins a Big One

Level 6 : 300/500, 500 ante

About 27,000 was already in the pot when action checked to Amanda Heidbrick on {7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{8-Spades}. She bet 11,000. The player under the gun called, with the player on his left folding pretty quickly. On the {6-Diamonds} river, the first player tanked several minutes before checking. Heidbrick had been cutting out chips and quickly tossed in 17,000. That earned the pot in short order.

Pupillo's Last Barrel Wins

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

With {2-Hearts}{q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} on the felt, Nick Pupillo bet 3,000 into 5,000 from the cutoff. The big blind put in calling chips and they went to the river, which came a {9-Hearts}. The big blind checked again and Pupillo bet 5,000. After a long tank, the big blind released.

"What happens if I put in 20,000?" the big blind said.

Pupillo just shrugged in response.

Nines are Devine

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Preflop action saw three players all in, with Andrew Burk having the dominating chipstack but not the best hand.

Andrew Burk: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
All-in Player 1: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
All-in Player 2: {k-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

After the flop of {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{3-Spades} it appeared that Player 1 was primed to triple up, but {9-Clubs} turn changed everything and the {j-Clubs} river secured the double knockout and added more chips to Burk's already-impressive chipstack.

Set Over Set Violence

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Headsup in a pot with 5,000 already in the middle, Paul Choi slid out a bet of 2600 on the {9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} board and was called.

Choi then bet 5,700 on the the {q-Clubs} river, which got an immediate call from his opponent, who probably lost the minimum on this hand.

Garshofsky Fades a Heap

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

With {5-Spades}{j-Hearts}{8-Spades} having flopped at Table 25, action was heavy as Mitch Garshofsky put in 3,800 from the button, the big blind had matched that amount, and a player in middle position moved all in for what looked to be about 15,000. Garshofsky shrugged and stuck all his money in as well.

"Go ahead, you get in there too," the all-in player said to the big blind, who decided to fold pretty quickly.

"If he's got me, he's got me," the all-in player said, tabling {a-Spades}{j-Spades}.

Garshofsky was good for the moment with {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} but had to fade a lot of cards. The {q-Hearts} changed that as he was only looking to dodge spades. A black card arrived but it was the {3-Clubs}.
