Aaron Fruen Applies Pressure

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante
Aaron Fruen
Aaron Fruen

Aaron Fruen opened for 1,300 and found three callers bringing about the {2-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{5-Spades} flop. Mark Fink checked from the small blind bringing action back to Fruen who continued for 2,500 and only Umut Ozturk called from the cutoff.

The {8-Hearts} turn saw Fruen toss out another 2,500 and then 5,000 after the {10-Clubs} completed the board on the river. Ozturk called both bets and then quickly mucked his hand after Fruen rolled over {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}.

Rich Kindel
Rich Kindel

A player from early position raised to 1,100 and found three callers before Rich Kindel three-bet to 4,100 on the button. All players folded except the hijack player, bringing the action heads-up to the {4-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop.

Action was checked to Kindel who continued for 14,000 and the price was too steep for his opponent as they quickly mucked their hand.

Dakota O'Malley Sniffs Out Schocks Bluff

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante
Dakota O'Malley
Dakota O'Malley

Action folded to Mitch Schock who raised to 900 from the hijack and Dakota O'Malley defended his big blind to see a {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts} flop.

O'Malley check-called the 1,300 continuation bet from Schock and then did the same for 4,400 after the {2-Spades} fell on the turn.

After the {a-Spades} completed the board on the river, O'Malley check-called once again, this time for 9,000.

Schock showed {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for air while O'Malley rolled over {5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} to win the pot with the wheel.

Nick Owen Travels from Wisconsin to Try His Luck in Deadwood

Level 3 : 200/200, 300 ante
Nick Owen
Nick Owen

Sometimes folks from Wisconsin are referred to as "Cheeseheads," and that's the case with Nick Owen, who hails from Reedsburg, Wisconsin. That's because he works as Saputo Cheese, though this weekend he's taken some vacation time in order to drive 12 hours out west to play the 2021 MSPT South Dakota State Poker Championship.

When he's not busy working or spending time with his teenage son, Logan, Owen enjoys hosting a weekly home game where $0.50/$1 no-limit hold'em and pot-limit Omaha are the games of choice. For the past couple of days, he's been taking in the local area, including Sturgis, riding motorcycles alongside fellow Wisconsinite, Tim Dunse.

For Owen, competing in the MSPT $1,100 Main Event is a taking a shot of sorts, and if he's managed to make the money, it'll be his first major tournament cash. Only time will tell if he's able to make that happen, and PokerNews will keep an eye on his MSPT South Dakota State Poker Championship journey.

Aoki Doubles With Quads

Level 3 : 200/200, 300 ante
Mikiyo Aoki
Mikiyo Aoki

There were six players that saw a {2-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop and action was checked to Mikiyo Aoki who fired out 2,500 from the cutoff and was called by Alex Wheeler from the small blind before Peter Shuldiner three-bet to 8,000.

Action folded back to Aoki who four-bet all in for 29,100, Wheeler mucked his hand while Shuldiner snap-called.

Mikiyo Aoki: {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}
Peter Shuldiner: {5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}

Shuldiner flopped the goods but the {2-Diamonds} paired the board on the turn giving Aoki a full house and then the dealer dropped the case {4-Spades} for good measure.
