Boris Kolev Leads Final 8 of MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event

Level 30 : 100,000/150,000, 30,000 ante

Day 2 began with 199 hopefuls looking to make a deep run in the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Venetian $1,100 Main Event.

By the end, just eight players remained — with Boris Kolev leading the pack once again with nearly 10 million in chips.

He was seen riding a roller coaster throughout the day but caught some steam towards the end of the night and takes the top stack into Saturday's Day 3.

With 189 slated to get paid, only ten players needed to exit before racing the money. The players dropped quickly as the money bubble was reached before the first level was even over.

With players scavenging to gather chips, two players found themselves without any on the bubble but that meant, neither player took the title of "bubble boy" as both Edward Recchion and Giorgii Skhulukhiia were eliminated at the same time meaning, they split the $2,184 min-cash taking home $1,092 apiece, but afterward, a slew of eliminations began.

Among those to fall albeit with a payday, were Bradley Beetz (9th - $26,881), James Heath (10th - $21,421),Taylor Howard (11th - $21,421), Matt Affleck (48th - $4,704), Ebony Kenney (126th - $2,688), and MSPT Hall of Famer Kou Vang (155th - $2,352).

Beetz was the final elimination of the night meaning eight players will be returning tomorrow for the final day and each of them has secured $33,601, but all eyes will be on the $260,008 first-place prize that the eventual champion will be taking home, along with the MSPT Venetian title.

Cards will be in the air at 11 a.m. local time with action picking up from level 31 where blinds are 100,000/200,000 with a 200,000 big blind ante. Blinds will remain 40-minutes in length and PokerNews will be back on hand for tomorrow for Day 3, so make sure to come back and see who is crowned Champion!

Bradley Beetz Eliminated in 9th Place ($26,881)

Level 30 : 100,000/150,000, 30,000 ante
Bradley Beetz
Bradley Beetz

Robert Clark raised and then called the three-bet jam from Bradley Beetz.

Bradley Beetz: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Robert Clark: {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Beetz was ahead until the {6-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} flop came down, pairing Clark's ten and giving him the flush draw.

The turn came red but it was the {q-Diamonds}, putting Beetz back out in front.

Beetz needed to fade the river but it just wouldn't be as the dealer dropped the {3-Hearts}, completing Clark's flush and eliminating Beetz.

James Heath Eliminated in 10th Place ($21,421)

Level 28 : 50,000/100,000, 20,000 ante
James Heath
James Heath

James Heath was all in preflop from the cutoff and Boris Kolev called from the big blind.

Boris Kolev: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}
James Heath: {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

Heath was dominated and things got worse after the {j-Hearts}{k-Spades}{q-Clubs} flop paired the Kolev's king.

The {10-Spades} turn brought possible chop outs as it gave both players a Broadway draw but the {2-Hearts} completed the board on the river and eliminated Heath on the final table bubble.

Ilyas Muradi raised from the cutoff and then called Taylor Howard's three-bet jam from the big blind.

Ilyas Muradi: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Taylor Howard: {6-Spades}{6-Spades}

Howard was behind needing a set but the {5-Spades}{8-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} runout ended his Main Event run.

Jonathan Ounjian Eliminated in 14th Place ($18,145)

Level 28 : 50,000/100,000, 20,000 ante
Jonathan Ounjian
Jonathan Ounjian

Jonathan Ounjian raised all in for 300,000 from the button and Nick Ahmadi called from the big blind.

Nick Ahmadi: {q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Jonathan Ounjian: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

Ounjian held the better hand hand and nothing changed after the {8-Hearts}{a-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop that paired his ace.

Unfortunately for him, two ladies came running {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} to complete the board, giving Ahmadi trip queens and eliminated Ounjian from the tournament.

Uri Reichenstein Eliminated in 16th Place ($15,625)

Level 28 : 50,000/100,000, 20,000 ante
Uri Reichenstein
Uri Reichenstein

Mickey Ma raised to 200,000 from early position and action folded to Uri Reichenstein who three-bet to 1,600,000 from the big blind.

Action was back on Ma who four-bet jammed and Reichenstein called holding a little less.

Mickey Ma: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Uri Reichenstein: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

It was a classic race that ended in a rollercoaster as the {9-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} flop gave Reichenstein a set but the {a-Spades} turn followed by the {q-Diamonds} river gave Ma a better full house, ending Reichenstein's tournament.
