Casey Temper
Casey Temper

Nik Stone opened under the gun for 8,000 and was called by Casey Temper from the next seat over, along with the hijack.

The {4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop was checked to Temper who moved all-in for 20,000 and only the hijack called.

Casey Temper: {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

Temper was ahead with his made hand of sevens and the {9-Spades} turn followed by the {2-Clubs} river secured his double-up.

Action folded to the button who raised to 3,500 and was called by both the blinds with included MSPT Hall of Famer Rob Wazwaz from the small blind.

The {9-Spades}{10-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop was checked by all three players to the {4-Diamonds} turn where Wazwaz led out for 7,000 and only the big blind called to see the {q-Clubs} complete the board on the river.

Wazwaz fired out 21,500 and his opponent called. Wazwaz quickly showed {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} for the nuts and collected the pot.

Nordstrand and Stone Double With Aces

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Cory Nordstrand
Cory Nordstrand

MSPT Hall of Famer Pat Steele opened for 3,800 from early position only to have Cory Nordstrand three-bet jam for 19,000 directly to his left.

Action folded to the hijack who came over the top for roughly 60,000 and Nik Stone called off his 21,800 stack from the big blind.

Steele quickly mucked his hand, and the three players tabled their cards.

Cory Nordstrand: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Nik Stone: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Opponent: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}

Nordstrand and Stone were disappointed to see they were both holding the same hand after the cards were revealed but didn't mind the {q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} runout that secured both their doubles.

Barnum Gifted with Straight Flush

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante
Justin Barnum From Day 1a Action
Justin Barnum From Day 1a Action

Four players limped in to see a {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{9-} flop and a player from early position led out for 2,600.

Justin Barnum called from middle position as did one other and the {5-Diamonds} fell on the turn.

The player from early position check-called the 11,000 bet from Barnum while the other folded, and the {q-Diamonds} completed the board on the river.

Barnum's opponent moved all-in for 7,000 and was called. Barnum's opponent rolled over {k-Spades}{q-Clubs} for top two-pair but it was no good, as the river gave Barnum a straight flush {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and he eliminated his opponent from the tournament.

Running Aces Casino
Running Aces Casino

Two flights down, one to go: It’s time for Day 1c of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Running Aces $1,110 Main Event.

The third and final starting flight presents the next opportunity for players to earn their seats for a Day 2 birth.

Thursday’s first starting flight saw 225 entries take to the felt while yesterday's Day 1b saw another 282 added to the tally, bringing the two-day total up to 507.

Just like the yesterday's starting flight, cards will be in the air at Noon local time and players will start with a stack of 25,000.

Levels will be of 40-minutes in length with 10-minute breaks coming after every two hours. Late registration/re-entries will remain available until the start of Level 13 and players are allowed unlimited re-entries until that point.

As for the happenings on the first two days, Day 1a saw the emergence of the top stacks as Robert Michener (729,000) leads the way thus far as the only player north of 700k while 2014 MSPT Running Aces champ Mark Sandness (692,000) and 2016 MSPT running Aces cham Jeremy Dresch (680,000) are the only other players that eclipsed the 600k mark.

So far, a little less than half of the 58 players currently on the Day 2 bagged north of the chip average and one last group of players will try to add their names to the list today.
