Wilkie Shows the Bluff

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Steve Wilkie
Steve Wilkie

With roughly 120,000 in the pot on a {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{9-Hearts} board, the big blind checked and Steve Wilkie jammed for approximately 90,000 in the cutoff. His opponent went deep into the tank for a couple of minutes before ultimately laying down his hand.

Wilkie first showed the {q-Clubs} before slowly revealing his other card as the {2-Clubs}, which he enthusiastically threw down onto the table and raked in the pot.

Wilkie is a previous MSPT Main Event champion, as he won the 2019 MSPT Denver Poker Open Main Event for $85,149 back in November 2019, and he will be looking to go on a similar run here.

Ira Friedman
Ira Friedman

With roughly 15,000 in the middle on a flop of {8-Clubs}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}, Ira Friedman had 8,500 committed to the pot on the button and was facing a jam by Brendan Shiller in the small blind.

Friedman mulled over his decision before folding {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} face up.

"Oh my god, that's what I thought you had," Shiller said while flipping over his {2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}. "That's the best laydown of the tournament."

Luke Blindert: {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Michael Wang: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Wang was in good shape to pick up the pot, and the {9-Spades} and {9-Clubs} kept him ahead and knocked out Blindert.

Alsup Cracks Laplante's Aces

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Rich Alsup
Rich Alsup

Ryan Laplante got in his stack of approximately 18,000 from the hijack and was at risk against Rich Alsup in middle position.

Laplante: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}
Alsup: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

The {k-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop changed nothing, but the {j-Hearts} turn vaulted Alsup ahead. The {3-Hearts} completed the board to confirm Laplante's demise as he tapped the table and made his exit following the unfortunate runout.

Alsup is the MSPT all-time leader in earnings and final tables, and he will be looking to add to his totals in this event.

Spragg Flops Set; Eliminates Opponent

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

Benjamin Spragg opened to 2,000 from early position, a middle position player called, the cutoff called, the button called, the small blind called, and the big blind defended.

The six players saw a flop of {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and the blinds and Spragg checked. The middle position player bet 6,000, the cutoff called, and action folded back to Spragg. Spragg jammed, the middle position player called for his stack of about 25,000, and the cutoff folded.

Opponent: {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Spragg: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

The {10-Hearts} turn gave Spragg a boat yet gave his opponent outs to a better boat, but the {3-Spades} harmlessly completed the board to send the pot to Spragg.

West Eliminates Opponent on Rollercoaster Runout

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante
Ron West
Ron West

On a flop of {a-Clubs}{9-Spades}{8-Clubs} with about 5,000 in the pot, a middle position player bet 2,400, Ron West raised to 6,000 on the button, and his opponent jammed for 28,300. West called.

Opponent: {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}
Ron West: {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

The {4-Clubs} hit the turn and the at-risk player did a small fist-pump upon making his flush, but the {9-Clubs} spiked the river to end that player's short-lived joy as he let out an expletive and made his exit from the table.

Meanwhile, West added the chips to his already growing stack and currently holds one of the bigger stacks in the room.

Harlen Miller
Harlen Miller

With roughly 8,000 in the pot on a completed board of {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}, Tim Reilly bet in the small blind and Harlen Miller raised to 10,000 in the big blind. Reilly thought about it and called.

Miller revealed {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for a straight to claim the pot as Reilly mucked.

Miller got his biggest score last year in June when he took first place and won $367,801 in $1,100 No Limit Hold'em - MSPT Event (Event #41) during The Venetian DeepStack Championship Poker Series, and he hopes to continue adding chips on his way to a deep run in this MSPT event.
