Welcome to the Day 2 finale of the $1,110 Mid-States Poker Tour(MSPT) Main Event at Venetian Las Vegas. Cards go in the air at 11:00 a.m. local time for the return of 71 surviving players from two opening flights.
Ezequiel Waigel will return with the overall chip leader after he bagged 730,000 on Day 1a. His closest competitor is Day 1b chip leader, Francis Anderson, with 575,000 and Varun Uppal returns with 476,000. Adam Hendrix and Mitchell Halverson round out the top five with 459,000 and 448,000, respectively.
Other returning players include Jeremy Ausmus, Kenny Huynh, Barry Shulman, Nipun Java, Ryan Laplante, and 2022 MSPT Player of the Year Josh Reichard, who sealed the deal on his top leaderboard spot at the close of Day 1b.
The tournament drew 643 entries and generated a prize pool of $620,495. All 71 returning players are guaranteed a min-cash of $2,048, while the winner will take home the top prize of $113,170.

Play will continue at the halfway point of Level 16 with blinds at 3,000/6,000 with a 6,000 ante. Blind levels will once again increase every 40 minutes until a winner is declared this evening.

Cards are now in the air for the final day of the $1,100 MSPT Venetian Main Event. The final 71 players will begin play with 19:53 left in Level 16.
Action was heads up with on the board when Brendan Shiller bet 65,000 from the small blind and Tama Lendvai called from the next seat over. Shiller turned over for the missed straight draw and Lendvai showed to take the pot with a pair of queens.
A few tables over, Ting Cheng got his last 87,000 in with against the of Barry Shulman. The board ran out and Cheng secured the double with a pair of queens on the turn.

Action was heads up with 44,000 in the middle and when Jeffrey Berkenkamp checked and Maria Tapang bet 55,000. Berkenkamp responded with a shove for a total of 120,000 and Tapang sat back with just a bit more.
After a few moments of thought, Tapang tossed in the chips to call and turned over for the lead with a pair of deuces. Berkenkamp showed with no pair but two over cards.
The turn and river ran out and Berkenkamp made a pair of kings on the river to double through Tapang and leave her with crumbs. She was eliminated a short time later.

Angela Jordison has gone on an early charge in Day 2 play and she's now among the leaders. Unofficially, Jordison can take the lead in the Global Poker Index Mid-Major Player of the Year race with a first or second-place finish.
