While PokerNews is here offering live updates for the $1,100 Main Event, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you about some of the side events that have taken place out over the past week for the Winter Poker Classic here at Running Aces Casino.

In Event #1: $360 NLH Mystery Bounty, 1,065 runners created a $318,000 prize pool that was paid out to the top 115 players.

Among those to cash but fall short of the final table were MSPT Hall of Famer Josh Reichard (11th - $2,969), Nik Stone (16th - $2,081), MSPT Hall of Famer Rob Wazwaz (26th - $1,214), Dan Bekavac (31st - $918), and DJ Buckley (39th - $707).

In the end, it was David Gonia who collected every chip in play to capture the MSPT Winter Poker Classic Trophy, along with a $38,606 payday plus bounties.

There was heads-up action after a {9-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop between Steve Wazwaz from under the gun and Nicholas Hammarstrom from the small blind.

A series of raises saw Hammarstrom get his 10,000 stack in the middle and Wazwaz was priced in for the call.

The MSPT Hall of Fame, established in 2017, is proud to recognize those individuals who have shown superior skill and achieved specific long-term accomplishments.

The criteria to earn a spot on the MSPT Hall of Fame is as follows:

  • Achieve a minimum of 25 MSPT Main Event Cashes and 1 MSPT Win OR 1 MSPT Player of the Year; or
  • Achieve a minimum of 10 MSPT Main Event Final Tables and 1 MSPT Win OR 1 MSPT Player of the Year

Tens Hold for Lunde

Level 3 : Blinds 200/200, 300 ante

Jonathan Garcia raised from under the gun and was called by Matthew Przybilla and David Lunde directly to his left.

The {9-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop saw Garcia continue for 1,500 and Przybilla called only to have Lunde raise to 3,200.

Action was back on Garcia who three-bet all in for 13,300 and only Lunde called.
