Crews Cracks Howard's Kings for Double

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Jason Crews
Jason Crews

The cutoff player opened for 2,700 and was called by Jason Crews from the small blind before Taylor Howard three-bet to 12,000 from the big blind.

The initial raiser folded while Crews called and the dealer dropped a {8-Clubs}{q-Spades}{5-Spades} flop on the felt. Crews check-jammed for 35,100 after Howard continued for 15,000 and was snap-called.

Jason Crews: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Taylor Howard: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Both players held made hands with Crews way behind but the {9-Spades} turn did make things interesting as it gave him a gutshot straight draw.

Crews needed a jack or ten to stay alive and fortunately for him, the dealer heard his prayer, peeling off the {j-Diamonds} on the river.

The Mid-States Poker Tour will play host to the United States Poker Championship September 16-26 at Sycuan Casino in San Diego, California.

A total of 11 trophy events will take place including a $360 Regional $100K Guarantee during the opening weekend (September 16-19) and the $1,110 Main Event running from Thursday, September 23 through Sunday, September 26, which will feature a $300K Guarantee for its three starting flights.

Sycuan's first MSPT stop came back in March and also culminated with a $300K Guarantee Main Event. That time, Alesandro Jauregui claimed victory and the accompanying $140,665 first-place prize after topping a field of 676, which more than doubled the tournament's guaranteed prize pool.

Sick River for Kolness

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Tyler Kolness
Tyler Kolness

After an initial limp, Tyler Kolness raised to 7,000 from the cutoff and was called by Keith Doering from the small blind, along with the initial limper.

The {9-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} flop was checked by all three players bringing the {3-Clubs} turn. Action was checked to Kolness who fired out 8,500 and only Doering called to see the {8-Clubs} complete the board on the river.

Doering led out for 11,500 and Kolness said "Sick river", before making the call.

Doering rolled over {a-Spades}{3-Spades} for bottom pair but it wasn't any good as Kolness showed {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} to scoop the pot with a set of eights.
