The second and final starting flight of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Grand Falls Casino $1,100 buy-in, $200K GTD Main Event is in the books. Day 1b attracted 308 runners during Saturday's action, bringing the grand total to 532 entries (224 from Day 1a; 308 from 1b), putting it just behind the record-breaking field from this last August.

After reaching the hard stop in Level 15, just 47 players bagged with Chris Baker and his stack of 399,000 leading the way. That was a just behind Day 1a chip leader Darlo Vansurksum, who bagged 420,000.

Others to punch their tickets to Day 2 were Eric Eelkema (381,000), Saad Ghanem (340,000), Matthew Molsen (338,000), and Jovan Sudar (278,000).

Of course, not everyone was fortunate enough to make it through the night. Among those to fire and fall in Saturday's flight were MSPT Hall of Famer Jason Seitz, along with MSPT Champion's Rob Wazwaz, Chad Bjorkman, and Jonathan Kim, just to name a few.

Day 2 will get underway at 11 a.m. local time and play to a winner with 73 players returning to the felt. The top 54 finishers will get paid with the eventual winner walking away with a $110,633 first-place prize.

PokerNews will be on hand to capture all the action, so be sure to join us then.

Skluzak Loses Race to Ghanem

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Breanna Skluzak
Breanna Skluzak

Breanna Skluzak was all in preflop from under the gun for 90,000 and Saad Ghanem called from the small blind.

Saad Ghanem: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Breanna Skluzak: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

It was a classic race with Skluzak looking to connect with either of her two overs but the feat was easier said then done as the {8-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} runout gave Ghanem a straight and ended her tournament.

Mader Turns Lady Luck

Level 13 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante
Phil Mader
Phil Mader

Dan Favreau raised under the gun and then called the 37,000 three-bet jam Phil Mader made on the button.

Phil Mader: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Dan Favreau: {a-Spades}{10-Spades}

Mader had Favreau dominated until the {3-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} flop hit the felt pairing Favreau's ten. Mader still held outs and luckily for him, the dealer dropped the {q-Hearts} on the turn putting him back out front.

There was still possible chop outs with both players holding a Broadway draw but the {4-Clubs} completed the board and secured Mader his double-up.

Big Slick Does the Trick for Favreau

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Dan Favreau
Dan Favreau

Action on the table folded around to Ryan Skluzak who raised all in for 30,000 from the cutoff and Dan Favreau called from the button.

Ryan Skluzak: {8-Spades}{5-Spades}
Dan Favreau: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

Skluzak was behind holding live cards and nothing changed after the {9-Spades}{3-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} flop fell.

The turn however, came the {6-Spades} giving Skluzak a straight flush draw.

Skluzak had a ton of outs heading to the river but a brick {4-Diamonds} fell and ended his tournament.

Ajayi Doubles Through Murphy

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Dapo Ajayi
Dapo Ajayi

Action on the table folded around to TJ Murphy who raised to 8,000 on the button and Dapo Ajayi three-bet jammed for 31,400 from the big blind.

Murphy spent some time in the tank and then tossed out the chips for a call.

TJ Murphy: {j-Spades}{9-Spades}
Dapo Ajayi: {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}

Ajayi was ahead and the {3-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} flop paired his ace.

The {k-Clubs} turn was a good card for both players as it gave Ajayi the nut flush draw while Murphy still had hope drawing to a non-club ten.

Murphy wanted to see a ten fall on the river but it came the {j-Clubs}, giving Ajayi the nuts and securing his double-up.

Jason Darland was all in preflop for 20,700 from early position and was called by a player from late position.

Jason Darland: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}

Darland was in rough shape and the {a-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop made things worse as it gave his opponent top-set.

The {8-Clubs} turn however, kept Darland's Main Event hopes alive with a club flush draw and luckily for him, the dealer dropped the {9-Clubs} on the river, securing his double-up.

Aaron Johnson
Aaron Johnson

There was four-way action after a {8-Spades}{k-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop and action was checked to the player under the gun who continued for 1,700.

Two players folded while MSPT Hall of Famer Aaron Johnson check-called from the small blind.

After the {2-Spades} fell on the turn, Johnson check-called his opponents 6,000 bet and the {5-Clubs} completed the board on the river.

Johnson checked-jammed for roughly 45,000 after his opponent fired out 12,000 and they quickly folded.

Geier Building a Stack

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante
Scott Geier
Scott Geier

Action on the table quickly folded around to the button button player who raised to 1,500 and only Scott Geier called from the small blind.

The {q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{9-Hearts} flop saw Geier lead out for 1,600 only to call the 3,600 raise from his opponent. The {q-Clubs} paired the board on the turn and Geier lead out once again, this time for 4,000.

Geier's opponent looked disgusted tossing {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts} into the muck and Geier was nice enough to show they made the correct call {q-}{x-}.

Grand Falls Casino

The second and final starting flight of the MSPT Grand Falls Casino $1,100 Main Event is set to get underway at 3 p.m. local time.

Day 1a drew 224 total entries and play reached a hard stop at 23:36 in the final level with 26 players remaining.

Darlo Vansurksum bagged the chip lead of the first flight and was the only person to bag over 400k (420,000). Today, another group of players will try to challenge that mark.

Other big stacks that punched their tickets to Day 2 were Todd Melander (397,000), Nicholas Smith (395,000), Luke Blindert (391,000), Graham Beynon (376,00), and Jason Crews (349,000).

Of course, not everyone was fortunate enough to make it through the night. Among those to fire and fall in Friday’s flight were MSPT Hall of Famer's Aaron Johnson and Jason Seitz, along with MSPT Champion's Rob Wazwaz, Taylor Howard, and Jonathan Kim. There's a good chance we see most of them give it another go today in the second flight.

The second starting flight will be identical to its first as the day will end once fifteen 40-minute levels are completed. All players will start with 25,000 in chips with 10-minute breaks coming after every two hours of play. All players are allowed a max of 1 re-entry per starting flight and registration will remain open until the end of Level 12.
