David Ouellette leads the field of 27 players after an action packed day as the 2021 Mid States Poker Tour (MSPT) returned to Las Vegas on Saturday September 4th for Day 1a of the MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event. The event attracted 238 entries in the Venetian Poker Room for a three day event with a guaranteed prize pool of $500,000.

Ouellette claimed the chip lead after back-to-back hands late in Day 1a, the second of which saw him eliminate Jeff Chandler with a flopped full house. Ouellette finished fifth in Event #6 at the Venetian DeepStack Extravaganza in April 2021 for $31,317 and will return on Monday to see if he can improve on his highest score. Returning to Day 2 with Ouellette will be his popular dog, “Jack”, and his trademark calm tournament demeanor.

Previous MSPT main event winner Harlen Miller of Bismarck, North Dakota made a strong run before bowing out late in the day. WSOP gold bracelet winner Kathy Liebert was steady all day before going on a run in the late levels to claim a spot near the top of the leaderboard. Jordan Cristos also had a consistent day, ending near the middle of the pack with a great chance to spin it up on Day 2.

Among the other players returning for Day 2 are Tony Wasaya, Justin Scott, Katrina Weaver, and Artem Zverkhovskyy.

Day 1b begins at 11:10 a.m. local time on Sunday September 5 and it is the second of two starting days. Day 2 will combine the surviving players from Day 1a and 1b into a single field on Monday and play will continue until there is a winner.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for another full day of action as we return on Sunday September 5 for Day 1b of the MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event at 11:10 a.m.

MSPT
MSPT

The 2021 Mid States Poker Tour (MSPT) is back in Las Vegas for the MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event and the Venetian Poker Room will play host to three days of action from September 4-6. The guaranteed prize pool of $500,000 will be at stake with two opening flights on Saturday and Sunday and the finale on Monday.

The MSPT previously visited Las Vegas this Summer for two main events. Harlen Miller of Bismarck, North Dakota beat a field of 2,790 entries to win the MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event in early June and later that month Chance Kornuth outlasted 2,011 entries to take down the MSPT Venetian $1,600 Main Event. Many MSPT regulars are expected in the field today to compete for the $500,000 guarantee.

Day 1a begins at 11:10 a.m. local time and is the first of two starting days, with Day 1b taking place on Sunday September 5 at 11:10 a.m. The final day of the tournament will take place on Monday September 6 with the surviving fields from Day 1a and Day 1b meeting at 11:00 a.m. Players will start with 25,000 in chips and blinds open at 100/100 with a 100 big blind ante. Players will take a 15-minute break every three levels and a 60-minute break at the end of level nine. Levels will be 40 minutes long.

Play will continue on Day 1a until 11% of the field remain, or until 15 levels have been played. Registration will be open until the conclusion of the dinner break that follows Level Nine, which will be around 6:40 p.m. Players can re-enter as many times as they wish until late registration closes.

Stay tuned all day long as PokerNews will be on the floor to bring you all the action as it happens.
