MSPT Venetian $1,600 Main Event ($2M GTD)

Day 1a Started

Welcome to Day 1a of the 2021 MSPT Venetian $1,600 Buy-in $2 Million GTD Main Event

MSPT
MSPT

Last week, the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) hosted an $1,100 Main Event with a guaranteed $1.5 million prize pool. By its conclusion this past Monday, that prize pool had swelled by over a million dollars, with Harlen Miller taking home the lions share after emerging victorious over a 2,790 entry field.

Starting today, the MSPT will host another main event featuring a larger $1,600 buy-in and $2 million guarantee. Unlike last week, this week’s event will only feature three starting days instead of four.

The tournament is set to begin at 11:10 a.m. local time. Players will start with 30,000 in chips and levels will last 40 minutes each, with level 1 starting at 100/100 blinds. A big blind ante will be introduced at the start of level four (200/300/300). Players will go on a 15-minute break after every three levels and a 45-minute dinner break at the end of level nine.

Late registration will be available until the end of dinner break (approximately 6:25 p.m.) and players will have the option re-enter an unlimited amount of times before then. Fifteen levels are scheduled to be played, which means action will conclude at around 10:40 p.m. The surviving players will bag and tag their chips and advance to Sunday's Day 2. Play will be nine-handed and tables no longer have dividers on them.

Moon Runs into Flush

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
Benjamin Moon
Benjamin Moon

A player in the cutoff limped and Benjamin Moon raised to 200 from the button. The small bind and cutoff both called.

The flop came {j-Hearts}{3-Spades}{7-Hearts} and the small blind open mucked. Action then checked to Mono, who continued for 300. The player in the cutoff called.

Both players then checked down on the {10-Hearts} turn and {9-Spades} river. Moon's opponent showed {q-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a flush and Moon mucked.

Moon is off to a good start despite the hit, however. He currently sits with about 35,000.

Moreno Lays on The Aggression

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

A player in the cutoff opened to 500 and found one caller in Andrew Moreno from the big blind.

The flop came {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and Moreno check-called a 300 bet from his opponent.

Both players checked on the {10-Clubs}, however, Moreno led out for 300 on the {6-Diamonds} river. His opponent responded by raising to 2,100. Undeterred, Moreno then re-raised to 8,600 and his opponent quickly folded.

Rich Lays it Down

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Jacob Rich opened to 500 from under-the-gun and action folded around to the player in the big blind, who called.

The flop came {q-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and Rich's opponent check-called a 300 bet from Rich.

Both players checked the {9-Hearts} turn, but when the {j-Diamonds} river completed the board, the big blind led out for 700. Rich responded by raising to 2,500 and his opponent then re-raised to 8,700. Rich folded after a bit of thought.
