Huge Pot for Voulgaris

Level 11 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Haralabos Voulgaris
Haralabos Voulgaris

A fascinating hand involving Haralabos Voulgaris and Yaqi Sun just played out at Table 11. As Bob Safai put it after the hand. "That was some bad s**t right there boys."

The hand started with a raise to 250,000 from Voulgaris (cutoff) and Sun defended from the big blind. Sun called bets of 275,000 and 425,000 respectively on the {Q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop and {7-Spades} turn, but the {6-Hearts} river is where it got really interesting.

Sun very deliberately counted out his stack to see how much he had left (2,275,000) this took about 30 seconds and he then bet 1,275,000 to leave exactly 1,000,000 back. "What's going on? I'm confused," said Voulgaris as he leant forward. "You want me to call or you want me to fold?" asked Voulgaris to Sun, who didn't answer. "You could have the flush, that's a possibility," he added.

The Canadian then cut out the calling chips from his stack, paused a few beats and then called. Sun turned over {K-Clubs}{4-Spades} for a pair of fours, Voulgaris had him beat with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and is now one of the chip leaders.

Andrew Pantling Gets Some Back

Level 11 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante

David Einhorn raised to 250,000 from middle position. Rick Salomon called from the hijack, Andrew Pantling called from the small blind, and Paul Newey called from the big blind.

The four players saw the flop come {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. Pantling led out for 675,000. Newey quickly folded. Einhorn called and Salomon folded.

Both players checked the {a-Diamonds} on the turn, and the river was the {q-Hearts}. Pantling bet 800,000. Einhorn thought a minute, then raised to 2,200,000. Pantling called and the players tabled their cards.

Einhorn: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Pantling: {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

Pantling wins with his pair of aces, and the dealer pushes him the pot.

Dan Shak or Phill Hellmuth?

Level 11 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante

Action folded to Dan Shak and he made it 400,000 to go, a 2.5x raise, and he picked up a caller in the shape of Anatoly Gurtovoy. On the {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop Shak bet 500,000 and took the pot.

"I thought it was 80,000/160,000," said Shak, explaining what for him was a larger than usual open raise. "I looked up (at the tournament clock) and saw 80/160 and thought that's what the blinds were."

"I thought you'd gone to the Phill Helmuth school of thought," joked Haralabos Voulgaris as Shak was stacking the chips.

Jason Strasser vs. Andrew Pantling

Level 11 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante

Andrew Pantling raised to 250,000 from the button and Jason Strasser called from the big blind. Both players checked the {q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}.

The turn was the {6-Clubs} and Strasser bet 325,000. Pantling called. The {2-Spades} fell on the river, and Strasser bet another 800,000. Pantling called again. Strasser turned over {10-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for a flush, and Pantling mucked his cards.

Zuo Wang Eliminated by Al De Carolis

Level 11 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Zuo Wang
Zuo Wang

The rich get richer as Al De Carolis just extended his chip lead by eliminating Zuo Wang.

In the hand in question, it folded to De Carolis on the button and he made it 400,000 to go, Wang moved in for around 1,750,000 from the small blind and De Carolis quickly called.

Wang: {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
De Carolis: {J-Clubs}{7-Clubs}

The {9-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Clubs} gave Wang a pair but De Carolis now had gutshot straight outs too. The {4-Hearts} was a blank but the {J-Diamonds} was the killer card for Wang. Be it a €20 freezeout of a €1,000,000 buy-in, it seems it's always the river.

Pantling Four-Bets, Does Not Win from De Carolis

Level 11 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante

Under the gun, Andrew Pantling raised to 250,000 and Cary Katz on the button made the call. Small blind Alfred De Carolis squeezed to 760,000 and the big blind folded. Pantling four-bet to 1.6 million and Katz quickly threw away his cards. De Carolis asked how much it was, counted out the chips, and called.

The flop came a dangerous {10-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and De Carolis checked. Pantling checked behind after about 10 seconds. The {4-Hearts} on the turn appeared to be a blank and De Carolis bet 1.2 million. Pantling folded almost instantly.

Zuo Wang Survives Early Scare

Level 11 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Zuo Wang
Zuo Wang

On the first hand of Day 2 on the feature table, Zuo Wang moved all in from under the gun for 1,820,000. Andrew Pantling called from his direct left, and everyone else folded.

Wang: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Pantling: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}

It looked like a probable split pot, but the flop fell {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{2-Spades} to give Pantling a flush draw. The turn was the {4-Hearts}, and the river the {a-Hearts}. Wang escapes the flush and survives with a chopped pot.

Play Underway

Level 11 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante

Tournament director Jack Effel just asked the dealers to shuffle up and deal. No new players have signed up, so it's 24 players divided over 3 even tables of 8. A 90-minute dinner break will commence after the 8th level of play today, which should be around 7pm. A prize pool calculation is currently in the works, but it looks like 5 places will get paid. We'll update you as soon as details are released by the organization.
