Chan Backdoors Kolonias, Holz Folds Out Lekovic, Two New Faces

Level 3 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Peter Chan
Peter Chan

We caught the tail end of a decent sized pot that played out between Alexandros Kolonias and Peter Chan. With the board reading {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{7-Hearts} Kolonias (cutoff) had checked the action over to Chan (button), who fired out a hefty pot-sized bet of 55,000, leaving himself roughly 85,000 behind.

Kolonias tanked long and hard over the decision, but as the astute amongst you must have guessed from the post title, the Greek player made the call only to see Chan triumphantly table {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for the rivered nut flush and the Hong Kong player climbed to 221,500 after that timely catch while Kolonias dropped to 166,500.

It has not taken Fedor Holz long to get things going and we caught the German player embroiled in a hand against Predrag Lekovic in a scene that felt strangely reminiscent of yesterday’s 6-Max final table – a fact Holz also noted.

We picked up the action pre-flop where Lekovic (under-the-gun) had a raise of 4,500 out on the felt in front of him and was contemplating a Holz UTG+1 re-raise of 15,000.

Lekovic mulled it over and eventually counted out the call, bringing a chuckle from Holz.

“We’ve been here before,” quipped the German as the dealer spread the {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop, which brought a check from Lekovic and a bet of 21,500 from Holz.

The Montenegrin player thought it over but did not take too long to make the call and the dealer burned and turned the {9-Spades} bringing another check from Lekovic and a hefty 66,500-second barrel from Holz.

Lekovic shot Holz a wry grin before sliding his cards into the muck, dropping to 288,000 while Holz climbed to 336,000.

There have been two more new arrivals to grow the field to 20 entrants, 19 of whom still remain in contention with the new faces being China’s Rui Cao and 6-Max runner up Su Hao.

Sontheimer Wins From O’Dwyer, Field Grows

Level 3 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

We caught a sizable hand on the river between Steve O’Dwyer and Steffen Sontheimer with roughly 50,000 already in the pot and the community cards spread {9-Spades}{4-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{3-Clubs}.

We missed all the pre and post flop betting aside from the final street unfortunately, arriving just as O’Dwyer had checked the action over to Sonheimer, who fired for close to a pot sized 45,000.

O’Dwyer did not look too happy about it but eventually threw in the call, but could only muck his hand when Sontheimer turned over {a-Spades}{10-Spades} for the turned nut flush. O’Dwyer took a hit and dropped to 226,000 while Sontheimer climbed to 337,000.

The field has increased some more with Hong Kong’s Devan Tang and Triton SHR 6-Max Montenegro final tablist Xuan Tan joining the fray. Tom Dwan has just walked into the poker room with Gabe Patgorski and the two perused the room briefly before walking back out. Whether that means the pair will be signing up later we do not know, but it will be fun finding out…

Cheng Enters, Yu Departs, Badziakouski Takes Early Lead

Level 2 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Mikita Badziakouski
Mikita Badziakouski

The field briefly grew to 16 with the arrival of Hong Kong’s Tony Cheng, but we have also had the Main Event’s first official casualty with Liang Yu hitting the rail.

The man to show Yu the door, at least for his first bullet, was Mikita Badziakouski with the two playing quite a few pots together every time we walked past their table.

It all came to a head on a {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop where we picked up the action with over 17,000 in blinds and antes already in the pot. We are not sure what the pre-flop betting was but Yu had just checked the action over to Badziakouski, who led out for 7,000.

Yu check-raised to 17,000, leaving himself 51,600 behind, and Badziakouski thought things over before casually tossing in the call and the dealer peeled off the {10-Clubs} turn.

Yu quickly moved all-in and Badziakouski called instantly, tabling {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. Yu shook his head, laughed and folded immediately, and got up and walked away from the table before the hand was finished.

That shot Badziakouski into an early lead and brought the field back down to 15.

Badziakouski Backs into Nuts

Level 2 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Mikita Badziakouski opened the action to 2,500 from under-the-gun and action folded around to big blind Liang Yu, who made the call to take the action heads-up to a flop of {4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}.

Yu checked the flop over to Badziakouski, who fired for 3,400 and after a minute’s careful contemplation Yu tossed in the call.

The {9-Diamonds} turn brought another check from Yu, with the Chinese player shooting Badziakouski a calculating look after the Belarusian checked it back and the {10-Clubs} landed on the river to complete the hand.

Yu checked for a third time and Badziakouski quickly bet close to a pot-sized 11,000, which Yu eventually called, though he looked fairly unimpressed when the Belarusian rolled over {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for the rivered nut straight.

Peters Wins From Greenwood, More Late Arrivals

Level 1 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We caught the tail end of a sizable pot between Lucas Greenwood (big blind) and David Peters just as the latter led out for a half-pot sized bet of 18,500 on the river with the community cards reading {7-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}.

Greenwood has roughly 176,600 behind and was in the midst of tanking as we arrived. Eventually though, after rechecking his cards Greenwood gave it up and Peters raked in the pot.

A slew of late arrivals heralded the end of the level and both Steve O’Dwyer and Alexandros Kolonias are moved to a new table as Paul Phua, Dominik Nitsche, Fedor Holz, Peter Chan, Steffen Sontheimer and Manig Loeser arrive, growing the field to 13 players, spread over two tables.

Yu Wins One, O’Dwyer Three-bets Badziakouski

Level 1 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Steve O’Dwyer is continuing to play a lot of early pots and has made it 3,000 to go from both the cutoff and the hi-jack to take down the blinds and antes two hands in a row.

Following O’Dwyer’s lead, Liang Yu decided to get something going, opening to 3,000 from the hi-jack the next hand and picking up a customer in big blind Predrag Lekovic, who checked the {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{a-Hearts} flop over to Yu.

Yu continuation bet 3,000, which Lekovic called and the dealer flipped over the {5-Diamonds} turn, bringing checks from both players.

The Montenegrin checked the {9-Clubs} river over to Yu for a third time and the Chinese player fired for 15,000, which was enough to win the hand.

Steve O’Dwyer opened yet another pot, this time for 2,500 from under-the-gun, only to see Mikita Badziakouski reach for raising chips and he made it 8,200 to go.

Action folded back over to O’Dwyer who stared Badziakouski down for a bit before reaching for chips and three-betting to 26,500 in total. Badziakouski re-checked his cards, tapped the table and made the fold leaving O’Dwyer to rake in a 10,000-chip pot without showdown.
