Paren Arzoomanian Leads the UKIPT Season 5 Isle of Man Final Table

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

At midday on Saturday, 97 players returned to the Villa Marina Arcade Harris Promenade for Day 2 of the Season 5 UKIPT Isle of Man Main Event. After the completion of 10 hour-long levels, all but eight of them lost their chips, some in spectacular fashion, leaving the tournament with only one table of players in contention for the £26,600 first place prize.

Leading the way going into the final table is Paren Arzoomanian, a PokerStars employee who won an ANZPT Main Event in Sydney during 2009 for $246,500. Arzoomanian (2,257,000 chips) is sure to be pushed all the way by the likes of young British grinder Daniel Stacey (1,714,000), Jersey’s Elliott Hayes (1,033,000), and seasoned British pro Michael Fletcher (911,000), indeed each of the nine finalists have got where they are on merit and would make a worthy champion.

They’ll return to the felt at 12:00pm local time to play for the title.

With only 47 places paid, 50 players left the tournament empty handed, with only the experience of playing in such a prestigious event to show for their substantial efforts. One such player was Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker who bust when his {Q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} couldn’t get there versus the dominating {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} of Phillip Corion

Corion wold bust two places from the money when he called an all-in on a {10-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{K-Spades} board with {5-Spades}{5-Clubs} only to run into Craig Sewell’s {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}. The board didn’t pair on the river and a disappointed Corion headed for the exits, forgetting his baseball cap as he did so.

Sewell then sent Dylan Coady to the rail in 48th place to earn the unwanted title of bubble boy. Sewell opened to 10,000 at the 2,000/4,000/500a level with {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and then called when Coady, a PokerStars VIP manager, three-bet all-in for 77,000 with {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. The five community cards fell {J-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades}{5-Hearts} to leave the remaining 47 players in the money.

As is usually the case when the money places are reached, there was a flurry of eliminations including the likes of Luke Staudenmaier (47th for £770), Diego Gomes (45th for £770), Daniel Best (39th for £865), reigning UKIPT Bristol champion Pierrick Tallon (31st for £990), Deborah Worley-Roberts (28th for £1,058), David Clarkson (25th for £1,125), Irish star David Lappin (19th for £1,395) and Joe Grech (10th for £2,275).

The official final table was set when Craig Sewell moved all-in for 14 big blinds with what turned out to be {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and Michael Fletcher looked him up with {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}, Fletcher took the lead on the {q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{7-Spades} flop and when the {j-Clubs} turn as followed into play by the {9-Clubs} river, Sewell bust and the tournament was paused for the final time with 24 minutes left on the level (10,000/20,000 with 3,000 ante).

Return to the PokerNews Live Reporting pages on Sunday from 12:00pm for all of the action from the UKIPT Isle of Man Main Event. Until then, why not enjoy this interview with David Lappin, by Sarah Herring, to see why Lappin is claiming to be the new Miss Finland!

Craig Sewell Eliminated in 9th Place (£2,710)

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Craig Sewell
Craig Sewell

Craigh Sewell found himself short stacked and made his move from early position. He shoved all in for his last 279,000 and soon got called by Michael Fletcher.

Sewell showed {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and was up against Fletcher's {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}.

The flop was a devastating one for Sewell; {Q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{7-Spades}. He needed runner runner diamonds or an eight, but would get neither. Instead the {J-Clubs} and {9-Clubs} popped up and just like that, the final table was set.

The bagging and tagging begun soon after, while Craig Sewell made his way to the pay out desk to collect his £2,710. The remaining eight players return tomorrow for the Final Table and are all guaranteed £3,307.

Joe Grech Eliminated in 10th Place (£2,275)

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Joe Grech
Joe Grech

Joe Grech has bust in 10th place in two lethal hands, although it was the first hand that did almost all the damage to his stack.

Grech raised from the button and then called when Elliott Hayes three-bet all-in for 420,000. Grech turned over {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and was ahead of Hayes' {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. The {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop kept that fact true, but the {A-Clubs} turn left Grech needing to spike one of the two remaining queens in the deck. The {A-Spades} river was not one of them and Grech lost all but 26,000 of his chips.

After folding one hand, Grech moved all-in under the gun and was called by Hayes to his direct left and James Walsh in the big blind.

The active players checked the {8-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{J-Spades} flop, but Walsh led for 25,000 on the {K-Diamonds} turn. Both players checked the {3-Hearts} turn and the cards were turned onto their backs.

Grech: {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}
Walsh: {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}
Hayes: {J-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Hayes won the pot with two pair and Grech headed to the cashier's desk.

Christopher Knights Eliminated in 11th Place (£2,275)

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Christopher Knights
Christopher Knights

Christopher Knights is the 11th place finisher in the UKIPT Isle of Man Main Event.

Paren Arzoomanian opened to 40,000 from under the gun and was called by Michael Fletcher on the button and Knights in the big blind. Knights proceeded to overbet shove for 312,000 on the {K-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} flop, Arzoomanian called and Fletcher folded; Fletcher took around one minute to muck his hand.

Arzoomanian flipped over {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} and Knights {K-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. The {6-Spades} turn failed to alter the course of the hand, as didn't the {7-Hearts} river, which sent Knights to the rail and Arzoomanian to the top of the chip counts.

John Cozens Eliminated in 12th Place (£2,005)

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
John Cozens
John Cozens

Paren Arzoomanian made it 35,000 to go from the hijack and his neighbor Daniel Stacey three bet to 83,000 from the cutoff. Michael Fletcher quickly released from the button but John Cozens in the small blind was committing all of his 90,000 in chips. John Lawson folded his big blind and Arzoomanian also released, wishing Cozens good luck as he knew Stacey was going to call.

Stacey indeed added the 7,000 in chips and the two of them opened their cards.

Daniel Stacey: {6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
John Cozens: {7-Spades}{Q-Spades}

"Ah, come on mate!" Arzoomanian said with a smile upon seeing Stacey had three bet him with the mere six three suited.

The flop came {J-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and Stacey grabbed a firm lead in the hand. After the {4-Diamonds} hit the turn it was all over for Cozens and the {6-Clubs} on the river was there just to make things official.

"I had ace three" Arzoomanian smiled, while Stacey was once again stacking huge piles of chips. John Cozens wished the table good luck and made his way to the pay out desk to receive a cheque worth £2,005.

Nick Smith Eliminated in 13th Place (£2,005)

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Nick Smith
Nick Smith

Action folded to Nick Smith in the small blind and he made it 55,000 to go. His only opponent was Daniel Stacey in the big blind and he three bet to 123,000. With the decision now back on Smith, he decided to move in.

Stacey needed some time. Meanwhile, the dealer counted out it was 813,000 total (almost 51 big blinds). Stacey tanked for a bit and then moved forward a small stack of 25,000 chips to indicate the call.

"I don't like that call" Smith said even before he saw what hand he was up against. He clearly wasn't thrilled to play such a big pot and indicated he would've preferred to take it down before seeing any community cards.

"Wow, this is a big pot!" John Cozens added.

Daniel Stacey: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Nick Smith: {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}

The biggest pot of the tournament was a coinflip between two blinds, and Smith got up to face his faith. Unfortunately for him, he didn't need to sit down back again anymore. The board came {7-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and with just ace king high, he left the tournament room.

Daniel Stacey is once again the chip leader.

Jordan Johnson Eliminated in 14th Place (£1,800)

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Jordan Johnson
Jordan Johnson

Daniel Stacey opened under the gun for 25,000 and received calls from John Cozens in middle position and Nick Smith in the small blind. Action was on Jordan Johnson in the big blind and he shoved for about 200,000 (about 17 big blinds). Stacey isolated by re raising and both Cozens and Smith folded.

Daniel Stacey: {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds}
Jordan Johnson: {Q-Hearts}{3-Hearts}

The {3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{A-Hearts} flop gave a glimpse of hope to Johnson, and the {6-Hearts} on the turn gave him some additional outs. The {9-Spades} on the river was a blank however, and Johnson was heading for the exit.

The remaining 13 players are now guaranteed £2,005.

No Chip and a Chair Comeback Story

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
David Hill
David Hill

David Hill opened to 26,000 from early position and his neighbor James Walsh three-bet. Hill called and check called a 40,000 bet on {4-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}.

The turn came the {a-Diamonds} and Hill moved all in for 137,000. Walsh just about snap called.

"Diamond one time?" Hill said as he saw his {K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} needed to improve against Walsh's {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}.

The river {7-Hearts} was the wrong red card and he was left with just a couple of big blinds.

"A chip and a chair" he said, but it wasn't meant to be as the next hand would be his last. Hill shoved all in blind under the gun for his last 24,000 and Chris Swinden on the button was the one calling. Despite shoving blind, he had picked up quite a decent hand:

David Hill: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Chris Swinden: {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

The board came {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{k-Spades} making Swinden a flush on the turn and David Hill was eliminated.

Dylan Coady Bubbles the UKIPT Isle of Man Main Event

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Dylan Coady (grey jumper)
Dylan Coady (grey jumper)

Craig Sewell opened for 10,000 from early position and action quickly folded around to Dylan Coady in the big blind. The PokerStars VIP Club Manager moved in for 77,000 and Sewell wasted not much time calling.

Craig Sewell: {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Dylan Coady: {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

While the tournament floor announced the all in and call, all players remained in their seats, afraid of getting a 2-hand penalty for getting up during the bubble.

The flop came {J-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts}, not connecting in any real way with Coady's hand. The {4-Spades} on the turn and {5-Hearts} on the river didn't either and just like that, during the first hand of hand for hand play, the tournament bubble bursted.

The remaining 47 players are now guaranteed £770. The next pay jump is at 39 where all players will get a minimum of £865.

Phillip Corion Busts in Massive Pot

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Phillip Corion
Phillip Corion

We picked up the action on a flop of {10-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades} as Phillip Corion checked from the big blind. Craig Sewell in early position made a bet of 16,000 and Gareth Mcintosh raised it to 36,000 from the hijack. Corion asked how much Mcintosh had behind approximately, and announced a three bet to 85,000. Sewell made the call, Mcintosh folded.

The {K-Spades} hit the turn and Corion moved in. An exact count wasn't done by the dealer (but we estimated it at around 90,000) as Sewell instantly called. You could hear the table sigh as the cards were opened.

Phillip Corion: {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}
Craig Sewell: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

Corion needed the board to pair on the river to survive, but a blank {8-Hearts} appeared instead and he had to get up from the table and leave the tournament room.

With Corion's exit the tournament is down to 49 players, just 2 away from the money. Sewell is one of the biggest stacks in the room.
