In about an hour time, it's time for Day 2 of the 2015 UKIPT Isle of Man Main Event. With just 97 of 349 entries remaining, the money is in sight. A total of 47 players will take home a minimum of £770, so that means 50 unfortunate souls will leave the tournament room empty handed today.
A total of ten 60-minute levels are scheduled today, unless a final table of 8 is reached before that. The first level to be played is 1,200/2,400 with a 300 ante, so the stakes are getting high.
Leading the charge is Day 1a chip leader Adrian Filiczkowski with 247,600 in chips (103 big blinds), followed closely by Day 1b chip leader Christopher Swinden who gathered 245,200 (102 big blinds) in the first ten levels of play.
Also still in contention are PokerStars Team Pro Chris Moneymaker and PokerStars Sport Star Fatima Moreira de Melo. Moneymaker (188,700) brings a whole lot more chips than Moreira de Melo (30,400), but the latter has the advantage of experience here in the Isle of Man as two years ago she finished runner up in this event.
The tournament re starts at noon sharp, so check back here in about an hour for coverage of Day 2 of the UKIPT Isle of Man Main Event!
Deborah Worley-Roberts, who lost a fair bit of chips to Leo Worthington-Leese early on today, just won back some chips. She opened under the gun and Daragh Davey in the big blind made the call.
Davey check called a bet of 8,600 on and check called another 12,000 on the turn. The river came the and Davey checked. Worley-Roberts thought about it for a bit, said "I have no f'ing idea what you have, so I check", and knocked on the table.
"Ace high" Davey exclaimed, and Worley-Roberts showed the winning .
"Women don't just peel potatoes!" Worley-Roberts said laughing.
"No, they also do parsnip and cauliflower" Andrew Hutchison replied with a smile.
Chris Moneymaker was down on his luck for the last few hours, and just lost the last of his chips.
He had just 53,000 left when he moved all in under the gun holding . His next door neighbor Phillip Corion had and wasn't going anywhere. Moneymaker already spoke out he expected to just have three live cards even before they rolled over their cards, and he turned out to be right.
The board came and all Moneymaker could say was “Good luck guys!”
We picked up the action on a flop of as Phillip Corion checked from the big blind. Craig Sewell in early position made a bet of 16,000 and Gareth Mcintosh raised it to 36,000 from the hijack. Corion asked how much Mcintosh had behind approximately, and announced a three bet to 85,000. Sewell made the call, Mcintosh folded.
The hit the turn and Corion moved in. An exact count wasn't done by the dealer (but we estimated it at around 90,000) as Sewell instantly called. You could hear the table sigh as the cards were opened.
Phillip Corion:
Craig Sewell:
Corion needed the board to pair on the river to survive, but a blank appeared instead and he had to get up from the table and leave the tournament room.
With Corion's exit the tournament is down to 49 players, just 2 away from the money. Sewell is one of the biggest stacks in the room.
Craig Sewell opened for 10,000 from early position and action quickly folded around to Dylan Coady in the big blind. The PokerStars VIP Club Manager moved in for 77,000 and Sewell wasted not much time calling.
Craig Sewell:
Dylan Coady:
While the tournament floor announced the all in and call, all players remained in their seats, afraid of getting a 2-hand penalty for getting up during the bubble.
The flop came , not connecting in any real way with Coady's hand. The on the turn and on the river didn't either and just like that, during the first hand of hand for hand play, the tournament bubble bursted.
The remaining 47 players are now guaranteed £770. The next pay jump is at 39 where all players will get a minimum of £865.
David Hill opened to 26,000 from early position and his neighbor James Walsh three-bet. Hill called and check called a 40,000 bet on .
The turn came the and Hill moved all in for 137,000. Walsh just about snap called.
"Diamond one time?" Hill said as he saw his needed to improve against Walsh's .
The river was the wrong red card and he was left with just a couple of big blinds.
"A chip and a chair" he said, but it wasn't meant to be as the next hand would be his last. Hill shoved all in blind under the gun for his last 24,000 and Chris Swinden on the button was the one calling. Despite shoving blind, he had picked up quite a decent hand:
David Hill:
Chris Swinden:
The board came making Swinden a flush on the turn and David Hill was eliminated.
Daniel Stacey opened under the gun for 25,000 and received calls from John Cozens in middle position and Nick Smith in the small blind. Action was on Jordan Johnson in the big blind and he shoved for about 200,000 (about 17 big blinds). Stacey isolated by re raising and both Cozens and Smith folded.
Daniel Stacey:
Jordan Johnson:
The flop gave a glimpse of hope to Johnson, and the on the turn gave him some additional outs. The on the river was a blank however, and Johnson was heading for the exit.
The remaining 13 players are now guaranteed £2,005.
Action folded to Nick Smith in the small blind and he made it 55,000 to go. His only opponent was Daniel Stacey in the big blind and he three bet to 123,000. With the decision now back on Smith, he decided to move in.
Stacey needed some time. Meanwhile, the dealer counted out it was 813,000 total (almost 51 big blinds). Stacey tanked for a bit and then moved forward a small stack of 25,000 chips to indicate the call.
"I don't like that call" Smith said even before he saw what hand he was up against. He clearly wasn't thrilled to play such a big pot and indicated he would've preferred to take it down before seeing any community cards.
"Wow, this is a big pot!" John Cozens added.
Daniel Stacey:
Nick Smith:
The biggest pot of the tournament was a coinflip between two blinds, and Smith got up to face his faith. Unfortunately for him, he didn't need to sit down back again anymore. The board came and with just ace king high, he left the tournament room.
Paren Arzoomanian made it 35,000 to go from the hijack and his neighbor Daniel Stacey three bet to 83,000 from the cutoff. Michael Fletcher quickly released from the button but John Cozens in the small blind was committing all of his 90,000 in chips. John Lawson folded his big blind and Arzoomanian also released, wishing Cozens good luck as he knew Stacey was going to call.
Stacey indeed added the 7,000 in chips and the two of them opened their cards.
Daniel Stacey:
John Cozens:
"Ah, come on mate!" Arzoomanian said with a smile upon seeing Stacey had three bet him with the mere six three suited.
The flop came and Stacey grabbed a firm lead in the hand. After the hit the turn it was all over for Cozens and the on the river was there just to make things official.
"I had ace three" Arzoomanian smiled, while Stacey was once again stacking huge piles of chips. John Cozens wished the table good luck and made his way to the pay out desk to receive a cheque worth £2,005.
Christopher Knights is the 11th place finisher in the UKIPT Isle of Man Main Event.
Paren Arzoomanian opened to 40,000 from under the gun and was called by Michael Fletcher on the button and Knights in the big blind. Knights proceeded to overbet shove for 312,000 on the flop, Arzoomanian called and Fletcher folded; Fletcher took around one minute to muck his hand.
Arzoomanian flipped over and Knights . The turn failed to alter the course of the hand, as didn't the river, which sent Knights to the rail and Arzoomanian to the top of the chip counts.
