Jouny Hanna Leads, Rasmus Agerskov Larsen Amasses Big Stack

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Rasmus Agerskov Larsen
Rasmus Agerskov Larsen

It was the third time the Unibet Open poker tour visited Denmark, and it was the third time it was held in the casino in the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel. 167 players registered for Day 1a of the event, making for a crowded tournament room in Copenhagen.

Besides many Unibet Open regulars, a lot of famous Danish players showed up. The Great Dane Gus Hansen was nowhere to be found, but guys like Jannick Wrang, Rasmus Agerskov Larsen, and Jonas Klausen did show up.

Wrang and Klausen didn't fare to well. EPT champion Wrang was the first to go from our list with notable Danes. He first lost a big coinflip situation holding ace king suited against queens. Just before the break he ran pocket aces into a straight and that was it.

Jonas Klausen, who's been on the poker circuit for years, was of to a good start, but fell well before the tournament director announced the bagging and tagging. We won't see Klausen, who moved back to Copenhagen after having lived in London for some years, back on Day 2.

Rasmus Agerskov Larsen is looking to move up a couple of spots on the Danish all time money list, currently sitting in 30th place. He made some progress to complete that goal today after doubling up in a huge hand. He got it in with aces versus the queens of Tina Beyer Christensen on an eight-high board with a lot of dead money in the pot already as well. Blanks on the turn and river made for a big stack for Larsen.

Vincent van der Fluit was the sole bracelet winner in the field as far as we know, but he wouldn't last. He had a rough day, bleeding chips from the moment the clock started ticking. In his biggest hand he was value betting top set aces on a four-straight board. His opponent didn't have the queen that could make a straight so easily, but he did have eight-nine which made a lower one. With a flush out there as well, it took some time before Van der Fluit eventually got called. What started out as a quest for value, ended up costing the Dutch WSOP winner most of his chips. He lost the remainder with kings to aces.

A total of 54 players survived the first ten levels of play. Jouny Hanna leads the charge with 203,000 in chips. The Swede is closely followed by Benjamin Westergaard with 200,000 even.

Day 1b starts tomorrow, with again 10 one-hour long levels on the schedule. 200 players have already registered for the event, making it officially sold out. The casino might decide to add some extra tables though, so be sure to drop by if you have €1,100 to spare and you're in Copenhagen. PokerNews will again bring you updates from noon local time.

Hanna Eliminates Glimne

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Dan Glimne
Dan Glimne

Dan Glimne was extremely short already, seated in the big blind at the start of his last hand. Jouny Hanna opened that hand to 4,100 and Wouter Schuurbiers made the call on the button. Glimne called all in from the big blind.

Hanna bet a mere 2,000 on {Q-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{5-Clubs} but it was enough to have Schuurbiers fold his hand. Hanna then showed his {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for the flopped nuts, Glimne was drawing dead holding {A-Spades}{10-Spades}.

The {9-Hearts} on the turn and {Q-Diamonds} on the river couldn't save Glimne, and the Unibet Open ambassador hit the rail.

Larsen Wins a Huge Pot

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Rasmus Agerskov Larsen
Rasmus Agerskov Larsen

The player in the hijack opened to 3,500 and his neighbor Rasmus Agerskov Larsen in the cutoff three bet to 9,200. Tina Beyer Christensen in the big blind cold called and the hijack came along to see a flop as well.

{6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

Christensen now lead out for 12,000 and the hijack made the call. Larsen thought for a bit, before announcing all in for 73,100. Christensen made the call, the hijack folded.

Larsen: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}
Christensen: {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}

The {9-Hearts} on the turn was a blank and so was the {2-Spades} on the river. Larsen doubled, leaving Christensen with just a fraction of what she had started the hand with.

Jonas Klausen Eliminated

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Jonas Klausen
Jonas Klausen

He's nowhere to be found, so we must assume he has been eliminated. The Danish regular, who's been on the circuit for years, recently moved back to Denmark from London, but won't be crowned Unibet Open champion in his home country.

A Former Champ Departs

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Mateusz Moolhuizen
Mateusz Moolhuizen

Unibet Open champion Mateusz Moolhuizen, who won the Malta event back in 2011 for €117,000, has just been eliminated at the feature table.

Dimitri Bogdanov opened to 2,500 from early position and right next to him Mateusz Moolhuizen shoved his remaining 15,450 to the middle. Action folded back to Dimitrii who instantly called.

Moolhuizen was in trouble with his {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}, his opponent showed up with {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. The {10-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{8-Hearts} board favored Bogdanov and Moolhuizen made his exit.

Klausen Catches Lucky River

Level 5 : 200/400, 75 ante
Jonas Klausen
Jonas Klausen

We're not entirely sure how the two of them got into the situation they were in, but we are sure about the action from the turn on.

With {10-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Hearts} on the board it was Jonas Klausen who bet out 8,000 from the big blind. His opponent, the player under the gun plus one, made the call after some thinking.

The {6-Clubs} on the river made Klausen shove all in for 15,150 total. His opponent thought for quite some time before eventually tossing in a single 5,000 chip to call.

You could almost see a small blush on Klausen's face as he tabled {8-Hearts}{5-Clubs} for the rivered straight. Klausen's opponent mucked.

Van der Fluit Loses Lots

Level 4 : 150/300, 50 ante
Vincent van der Fluit
Vincent van der Fluit

Nenad Sremcevic opened under the gun to 900 and Vincent van der Fluit on the button three bet to 2,800. Both blinds folded, Sremcevic made the call.

Sremcevic check called 3,100 on {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and check called another 7,000 on the {J-Diamonds} turn. The river came the {K-Clubs} and Sremcevic checked a third time. Van der Fluit bet out 12,500 and now the big show began.

Sremcevic thought for quite some time and started talking. "You got very lucky this time. Very lucky! You have ace of spades, queen of diamonds!"

Some more time passed and Sremcevic continued "Wou want me to call with a straight?"

Van der Fluit's face changed a bit as he looked kind of surprised. "A straight?" he asked with a somewhat sincere voice. "Eight nine?" said Van der Fluit. "Of course I have eight nine. You got very lucky and you know it!" said Sremcevic.

Sremcevic was thinking about folding, but changed his mind. "Why are you so scared? Maybe you have two pair!" said Sremcevic as he picked up some chips to call. "I would check two pair, come one" laughed Van der Fluit.

"You look scared why would you be scared with the nuts?" asked Sremcevic. "It's a big pot, of course I'm nervous" answered Van der Fluit.

Sremcevic eventually tossed in the chips to call anyway. "Ok, I was value betting" said Van der Fluit tabling {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs} in the proces. That was no good as Sremcevic indeed showed {8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for the turned straight and he received the big pot.

Wrang Loses the Flip

Level 4 : 150/300, 50 ante
Jannick Wrang
Jannick Wrang

Jannick Wrang opened to 800 from middle position and his neighbor Chris Brink made it 1,600 from the hijack. Action folded to the big blind who made the call. Wrang tossed in a 5,000 chip and announced his raise was to 4,600 while the chip was still in mid air.

Brink wasn't in too much doubt as he shoved all in for 27,000 even straight away. The big blind folded and Wrang made the call after confirming how much it was.

Wrang: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}
Brink: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}

The {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} on the flop made for a big lead for Brink. After the {6-Clubs} on the turn the hand was about over, the {5-Diamonds} on the river was just there to make things official.
