Copenhagen Welcomes the Unibet Open

Once again the Unibet Open has set foot in Copenhagen; it's time for the tours third edition in the Danish capital. Again Copenhagen will be the stage for four days of poker action from the casino inside the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel.

This event debuted on the Unibet Open calendar back in 2013. In march of that year it was Kassem Yassine who took down the event for 725,000 Danish kronen (€107,367/$126,744). Last year hometown favorite and former EPT champ Frederik Jensen outlasted everyone and claimed victory in the sold out event for the sum of DKr 625,000 (€83,750/$116,168).

The hotel was already buzzing with players late last night, so it promises to be a busy tournament again. PokerNews is here from start to finish to bring you updates on all the big names playing this event, the local heros going for their first deep run, and the qualifiers bluffing the pro's.

Play will start at noon (in about 3 hours) and players will have a 30,000 start stack to work with. All levels will be 60 minutes long with the first level being 50/100, meaning a 300 big blind stack awaits the players. After every second level a 15-minute break will be held, the structure dictates a 60-minute dinner break after the sixth level.

Moolhuizen of to a Good Start

Mateusz Moolhuizen

A player in early position opened to 400 and the cutoff made the call. Mateusz Moolhuizen on the button made the call and both blinds made the call as well.

Action checked to Moolhuizen on {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{A-Clubs} and the Dutchman bet 500. Both blinds folded and the initial raiser made the call, so did the cutoff.

The {8-Diamonds} fell on the turn and again action checked to Moolhuizen. The bet of 1,000 the former Unibet Open champion made was called by the initial raiser, the cutoff folded.

The {5-Clubs} fell on the river and the player who had been check calling so far, now bet out 2,000. Moolhuizen raised his eyebrow, thought for a bit, and eventually made the call.

The big blind showed the {3-Hearts} first before revealing the {A-Diamonds} to go along with it. Moolhuizen showed {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and took it down.

Wrang Loses the Flip

Level 4 : 150/300, 50 ante
Jannick Wrang
Jannick Wrang

Jannick Wrang opened to 800 from middle position and his neighbor Chris Brink made it 1,600 from the hijack. Action folded to the big blind who made the call. Wrang tossed in a 5,000 chip and announced his raise was to 4,600 while the chip was still in mid air.

Brink wasn't in too much doubt as he shoved all in for 27,000 even straight away. The big blind folded and Wrang made the call after confirming how much it was.

Wrang: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}
Brink: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}

The {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} on the flop made for a big lead for Brink. After the {6-Clubs} on the turn the hand was about over, the {5-Diamonds} on the river was just there to make things official.

Van der Fluit Loses Lots

Level 4 : 150/300, 50 ante
Vincent van der Fluit
Vincent van der Fluit

Nenad Sremcevic opened under the gun to 900 and Vincent van der Fluit on the button three bet to 2,800. Both blinds folded, Sremcevic made the call.

Sremcevic check called 3,100 on {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and check called another 7,000 on the {J-Diamonds} turn. The river came the {K-Clubs} and Sremcevic checked a third time. Van der Fluit bet out 12,500 and now the big show began.

Sremcevic thought for quite some time and started talking. "You got very lucky this time. Very lucky! You have ace of spades, queen of diamonds!"

Some more time passed and Sremcevic continued "Wou want me to call with a straight?"

Van der Fluit's face changed a bit as he looked kind of surprised. "A straight?" he asked with a somewhat sincere voice. "Eight nine?" said Van der Fluit. "Of course I have eight nine. You got very lucky and you know it!" said Sremcevic.

Sremcevic was thinking about folding, but changed his mind. "Why are you so scared? Maybe you have two pair!" said Sremcevic as he picked up some chips to call. "I would check two pair, come one" laughed Van der Fluit.

"You look scared why would you be scared with the nuts?" asked Sremcevic. "It's a big pot, of course I'm nervous" answered Van der Fluit.

Sremcevic eventually tossed in the chips to call anyway. "Ok, I was value betting" said Van der Fluit tabling {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs} in the proces. That was no good as Sremcevic indeed showed {8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for the turned straight and he received the big pot.

Klausen Catches Lucky River

Level 5 : 200/400, 75 ante
Jonas Klausen
Jonas Klausen

We're not entirely sure how the two of them got into the situation they were in, but we are sure about the action from the turn on.

With {10-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Hearts} on the board it was Jonas Klausen who bet out 8,000 from the big blind. His opponent, the player under the gun plus one, made the call after some thinking.

The {6-Clubs} on the river made Klausen shove all in for 15,150 total. His opponent thought for quite some time before eventually tossing in a single 5,000 chip to call.

You could almost see a small blush on Klausen's face as he tabled {8-Hearts}{5-Clubs} for the rivered straight. Klausen's opponent mucked.

A Former Champ Departs

Mateusz Moolhuizen
Mateusz Moolhuizen

Unibet Open champion Mateusz Moolhuizen, who won the Malta event back in 2011 for €117,000, has just been eliminated at the feature table.

Dimitri Bogdanov opened to 2,500 from early position and right next to him Mateusz Moolhuizen shoved his remaining 15,450 to the middle. Action folded back to Dimitrii who instantly called.

Moolhuizen was in trouble with his {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}, his opponent showed up with {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. The {10-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{8-Hearts} board favored Bogdanov and Moolhuizen made his exit.

Jonas Klausen Eliminated

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Jonas Klausen

He's nowhere to be found, so we must assume he has been eliminated. The Danish regular, who's been on the circuit for years, recently moved back to Denmark from London, but won't be crowned Unibet Open champion in his home country.

Larsen Wins a Huge Pot

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Rasmus Agerskov Larsen
Rasmus Agerskov Larsen

The player in the hijack opened to 3,500 and his neighbor Rasmus Agerskov Larsen in the cutoff three bet to 9,200. Tina Beyer Christensen in the big blind cold called and the hijack came along to see a flop as well.

{6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

Christensen now lead out for 12,000 and the hijack made the call. Larsen thought for a bit, before announcing all in for 73,100. Christensen made the call, the hijack folded.

Larsen: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}
Christensen: {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}

The {9-Hearts} on the turn was a blank and so was the {2-Spades} on the river. Larsen doubled, leaving Christensen with just a fraction of what she had started the hand with.
