Day 1b of the Unibet Open Copenhagen attracted a field of 223 players. Together with the 152 that played on Day 1a, that made for a total of 376.

Day 1b got underway at exactly noon and a total of 9 one-hour levels were played. In the end Haci Bayram from Denmark collected the most chips, turning a 30,000 starting stack into 285,500.

A slate of big hands played out during the day, with Emma Wikberg getting it in with a set agains top pair and top kicker as one of the early highlights of the day. Tina Christensen, another Unibet Open regular, also doubled up early but in the end came up short and busted in the penultimate level of the day.

Two-time Unibet Open champion Mateusz Moolhuizen flew over from Barcelona for this tournament. He played there all week but couldn't pass on the chance to become the first 3-time champion and made his way to the sunny Danish capital to try his luck at another Unibet Open.

He initially did well, picking up pots left and right, but had a small setback losing king-queen to queens in a blind battle. A good call with second pair in a three-bet pot catapulted him back into safe territories but in one of the last hands of the day he lost a 200,000 pot with ace-king against aces and he ended the day with just 9,700 in chips, just 5 big blinds.

Another familiar face on the tournament circuit, Jorn Walthaus, also made attendance at the Unibet Open. The Dutchman, living in Bali these days, flew over to battle with the Nordics. He gathered 106,000 in chips.

As registration closed the prize pool was announced. A total of DKK 2,707,200 (€363,595) is to be divided with the winner walking away DKK 525,000 (€70,514) richer. 53 players will be in the money, meaning a little over 14 percent of the field is getting paid here in Copenhagen. No uproar was heard about that.

A total of 82 players survived Day 1b. Together with the 52 that survived Day 1a that makes for 134 players that start Day 2 tomorrow, 81 to the money. Play will get underway at noon local time again, with the goal to play down to a final table of 9. Whether that objective will be reached or not remains to be seen. PokerNews will be on the floor for continuing coverage of the Unibet Open Copenhagen.

The Day is Done

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

We'll be back with you later tonight with end of day chip counts and a recap of today's action as soon as the organization releases the final numbers.

"That's Disgusting!"

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Rasmus Larsen got it in before the flop with {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades} up against the {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} of his neighbor Ville Maki Mikola.

Larsen was at risk for 44,900, Maki Mikola had plenty behind but the pot was still sizable.

The dealer wasted no time making a show, putting the {K-Clubs}{10-Spades}{J-Diamonds} flop out there without much Hollywooding. Larsen kicked back his chair a little awaiting the turn and river. The {6-Diamonds} was no blank but the {8-Spades} was and so Larsen doubled.

"That's disgusting!" Larsen exclaimed himself, "F%^&ng Danish players!" he continued about the beat he just put on his opponent.

Arwin Already Out the Door

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Martin Arwin got it in before the flop with {7-Spades}{8-Spades} against the {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} of Lasse Haagensen.

The flop came {3-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}, not doing much of anything for anyone. The {9-Clubs} on the turn wasn't a blank though, hitting Haagensen.

Arwin had seen enough and got up, thinking he was drawing dead. While he was already halfway out the door, the dealer put the {10-Hearts} on the table, completing Arwin's straight.

He sat back down and started stacking his chips.

Moolhuizen Insta Calls

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Mateusz Moolhuizen opened the button for 3,500 and small blind Johan Soderberg three-bet to 9,000. The big blind folded and Moolhuizen called in position.

The flop came {J-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{7-Spades} and Soderberg checked. Moolhuizen bet 6,500 and Soderberg called.

Both players checked the {3-Diamonds} on the turn and the {K-Clubs} completed the board. Soderberg contemplated what to do for just a bit before betting 14,000. Moolhuizen called instantly.

Soderberg showed {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and Moolhuizen received the pot tabling {Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. Moolhuizen back in action, Soderberg still has plenty left.

Break

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

The last break of the day just started. Players return in 15 minutes to play the last level of the night.

Facing the Floor

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

From under the gun, Zoltan Bozoki opened for 3,000. Rune Thomsen in the cutoff made the call and all other players got out of the way.

Both checked the flop of {J-Hearts}{3-Spades}{4-Hearts} and the {7-Hearts} on the turn was seen for free. Bozoki made a bet of 2,000 and Thomsen instantly raised to 6,000. Bozoki made the call.

The {J-Clubs} completed the board and Bozoki checked. Thomsen moved his chair back, had his chin almost on the rail and bet 20,100, almost enough to put Bozoki all in.

While Bozoki tanked, Thomsen put his forehead on the rail, looking down to the floor awaiting the call or fold from his opponent. Bozoki eventually tossed his cards into the muck, and Thomsen was alerted by his neighbor it was time to breath again.
