The second and final starting day of the 10-year anniversary edition of the Unibet Open Main Event kicks off at 11 a.m. local time at the extravagant JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel in the centre of the Romanian capital. December 1st is also the Great Union Day, the national holiday of Romania, and a big field is expected for Day 1b of the €1,100 Main Event.
Day 1a attracted a field of 167 entries of which 39 advanced to Day 2 on Saturday December 2nd 2017 and a much bigger field is expected for today. Amongst others, the defending champion of the event will take his seat in Traian Bostan. The local defeated a 603-entry strong field back in 2016 to lift the trophy and claim a payday of €100,000 in the record-breaking event.
Other notables expected to join the action today are the Unibet Poker ambassadors Ian Simpson, Dara O'Kearney, David Lappin and Rauno Tahvonen along with most participants of the eSports Battle Royale VII and an armada of online and live qualifiers. Same as the previous starting day, a total of 11 levels of 60 minutes each are scheduled and all participants receive 30,000 in chips. There is a break after the levels two, four, six, seven and nine with a 60-minute dinner break after level seven, the registration remains open until the start of level seven as well.

The €2,200 High Roller played down to a winner last night as well and Olvedo Heinze emerged victorious in heads-up against Katsuhiro Muto, having flopped a straight with versus on a board of to eliminate Muto. Heinze scored a crucial double through Eric Wasylenko with aces versus ace-queen and sent Dorin Rauta to the rail as last man without anything to show for when winning a flip with nines versus ace-jack suited. Heinze entered the final table as the chip leader and took home the lion's share of the €192,060 prize pool in a field of 99 entries.

The Unibet Open Head of Events, Nataly Sopacuaperu, has introduced all players along with tournament director and former November Niner Kenny Hallaert and explained the plan for the day. Along with their entry, all participants also receive a raffle ticket that can be used to have an additional chance at merchandising.
According to the screens there are already 170 players registered before the start, surpassing the field size of Day 1a.

Peter Jaksland had just sat down and was in the big blind, facing a raise to 300 by Rico Leestemaker, and filled up. The flop fell and both players checked, Jaksland then bet the turn for 500 and Leestemaker called before the river completed the board.
Jaksland checked and Leestemaker bet 1,200. "I should fold, but ..." sighed Jaksland and tossed in the chips with a dry smile. Leestemaker flashed for a straight and Jaksland mucked the for trips tens.

Mateusz Moolhuizen was the second player to win two Unibet Open Main Events and the first one was Dan Murariu. Both entered just now and Moolhuizen already had a decent start into the festival after finishing 5th in the €2,200 High Roller last night.

Gordon Plomp finished 11th in the 2016 Unibet Open Bucharest and is back here in Romania to get an even better result this year. He faces Johan Goslings on the same table while Unibet Poker ambassador Rauno Tahvonen is one table over. Also in are the two former Unibet Open champions Peter Harkes and Martin Soukup.

Anton Markov and Mateusz Moolhuizen got into a bigger hand early on that saw a pot of 4,500 emerge until the river of a board . Moolhuizen checked his option out of the big blind and Markov led for 2,000. After some consideration, Moolhuizen folded.
Another Bulgarian scooped a pot without showdown one table over and that was Ivaylo Peevski. He faced a bet of 1,025 on the river and raised to 3,000. His sole opponent, Alexandru Lazar, folded and gave up the hand without further resistance.
