Day 1 Started

Welcome to Day 1 of the Unibet Open Bucharest €2,200 High Roller

Unibet Open
Unibet Open

Welcome to Day 1 of the two-day Unibet Open Bucharest €2,200 High Roller at the luxurious JW Marriott. The tournament kicks off at 8 p.m. EEST and will feature many big names including Unibet Poker ambassadors.

The tournament boasts an amazing structure with players starting off with 30,000 in chips. Day 1 will feature six 40-minute blinds levels with players allowed to reenter until the late registration closes at the start of Level 8 on Day 2.

The structure also features a big blind ante from the beginning of the tournament, which should speed up the action with not every player required to post an ante every hand.

The High Roller was popular the last time the Unibet Open came to Bucharest in November. Netherlands' Olvedo Heinze outlasted a field of 99 entrants to win the massive €54,955 top prize.

Farah Wins a Big Early Pot Off Bogdan

Level 1 : 100/100, 100 ante

The field in the High Roller is growing and is now at 24 entrants. While most players appear to be playing small ball early, there was just one big pot on Table 27.

Romania's Bogdan Nicolae fired out for 2,500 into a pot of around 5,500 after the flop came {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}{6-Hearts} and got a call from Lebanon's Elie Farah.

Nicolae check-called a bet of 4,500 from Farah after the {J-Diamonds} appeared on the turn.

The {J-Clubs} completed the board on the river and Nicolae tanked for a minute before he checked. Farah wasted no time and fired out a bet of 8,500. Bogdan went back into the tank for several minutes before he folded.

O'Kearney, Dunne, and Chutrov in the Field

Level 1 : 100/100, 100 ante

Unibet Poker Ambassador Dara O'Kearney is here in Bucharest ready to play. He was just eliminated from one of the side events and wasted no time in entering the High Roller near the end of the first level.

The field has ballooned to 32 entrants and will continue to grow until late-registration is closed at the end of Level 7 on Day 2. Also in action are Sweden's Karl Stark and Bulgaria's Daniel Chutrov.

Skoczylas Doubles With the Nuts

Level 1 : 100/100, 100 ante

Andrzej Skoczylas bet 5,500 into a pot of 8,000 with the board reading {j-Clubs}{k-Spades}{3-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}.

Last year's Unibet Open Bucharest Main Event champion Marius Pertea looked down at his chips before he declared himself all-in. Skocyzlas snap-called and turned over {Q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} for the nuts with a straight. Pertea turned over {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} and shook his head after his top set was no good.

Simpson Starts Strong

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

Unibet Ambassador Ian Simpson is off to a nice start and has grown his stack up to 43,000 in chips.

Most of Simpson's chips came during the opening blind level. The action checked around to a player in the small blind who opted to limp before he called a bet of 300 from Simpson from the big blind.

Simpson continued for 200 after his opponent checked the {9-}{3-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop. His opponent raised to 1,200 and Simpson called.

A {9-} paired the board on the turn and Simpson called a bet of 2,000 from his opponent. Simpson's opponent led out for 3,000 after the {3-} completed the board on the river. Simpson raised to 10,500 and got a call.

The Unibet ambassador turned over {j-}{9-} for trips and collected a big early pot after his opponent tossed his hand into the muck.

Things aren't going as peachy for fellow Unibet Poker Ambassadors Espen Uhlen Jorstad with 23,000 in chips and Dara O'Kearney with 28,500.

Meanwhile, Jorstad's roommate Rauno Kiviloo joined the field after winning a ticket in a satellite held earlier today.

The first blind level also witnessed the first two eliminations in Dan Chisu and Marius Pertea, who we earlier reported was low on chips after losing with a top set of aces. Chisu is already back in the field, while Pertea at least for now is on the rail.

Bostan Picks Off a Bluff

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

Romania's Traian Bostan won a few small pots before winning a bigger one. He tanked before he checked on a {7-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{k-Clubs} board.

Countrymate Chiriac Petre Laurentiu then thought for a moment before he bet 4,500 into a pot of around 6,000. Bostan quickly called. Laurentiu was bluffing and turned over {J-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and Bostan's top pair with {A-Hearts}{4-Spades} was good enough to collect the pot.
