Day 1 Completed

Andrei Nodea Heads Field Entering Final Day of the Unibet Open Bucharest High Roller

Level 6 : 400/800, 800 ante
Andrei Nodea

After six levels of play, Romania's Andrei Nodea leads the way entering the second and final day of the 2018 Unibet Open Bucharest High Roller after bagging a huge stack of 95,200.

A total of 54 entrants ponied up the €2,200 buy-in to generate a €104,760 prize pool. That figure will grow with late-registration and unlimited reentries open until the end of Level 7 on Day 2.

Finishing the day just behind Nodea were Romania's Traian Bostan (second - 74,900), Bulgaria's Simeon Spasov (third - 69,200), Poland's Andrzej Skoczylas (fourth - 65,500), and United Kingdom's Jack Sinclair (fifth - 63,100).

Bostan got most of his chips early after he called a bluff with top pair against Chiriac Petre Laurentiu. Laurentiu still had a healthy stack after the hand but wasn't able to survive the day and at least thus far hasn't reentered.

Skoczylas also found early success like Bostan. He doubled up after nailing the nut-straight with queen-ten against last year's Unibet Open Main Event champion Marius Pertea, who held top set with pocket aces. Pertea was short on chips after the hand and eventually gave the rest away a few hands later. He then reentered the High Roller but didn't find much luck on his second bullet bagging 14,900 or less than half of the 30,000 starting stack.

Also getting in on the action were four Unibet Poker Ambassadors in Ian Simpson, Dara O'Kearney, Rauno "Estonian Jesus" Tahvonen, and Espen Uhlen Jorstad.

Ian Simpson

Simpson found success early on and double his stack before the first break. However, he cooled off and will enter tomorrow with a 16th place chip stack of 46,200.

The other three Unibet Poker ambassadors had less success but all bag chips with Tahvonen bringing forth 29,200 in chips, O'Kearney bagging 20,000 in chips, and Jorstad ending the day with 11,600 in chips.

Meanwhile, Esports sensation Nathan “NBK” Schmitt, who earlier in the day competed in the Unibet Poker Esports Battle Royale, managed a better day than all the ambassadors after bagging a seventh-place stack of 55,700 in chips.

The action will resume again tomorrow, Aug. 2 at 12 p.m. EEST with blinds at 500/1,000 with a big blind ante of 1,000. Stay tuned at PokerNews as we cover the remainder of the 2018 Unibet Open Bucharest High Roller.

Niste Doubles on Second to Last Hand of the Day

Level 6 : 400/800, 800 ante

Mihai Gabriel Niste doubled on the last hand of the night. With about 8,000 in the pot Dan Chisu checked with the board reading {7-Spades}{5-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} before he called a bet from Niste of 5,600.

Chisu checked before Niste jammed for 12,000 after the {10-Diamonds} completed the board on the river. Chisu tanked for a minute or two before he made the call.

Niste turned over {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for the straight and Chisu just stared at his cards for 30 second before he turned over {q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}.

Grimberg Triples Up

Level 6 : 400/800, 800 ante

With about 6,000 in the pot, Andrzej Skoczylas bet 3,600 on a {10-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} flop. Andrei Grimberg three-bet jammed for about 12,500 before Vladas Tamasuskas four-bet jammed to 22,500.

Skoczylas tanked for several minutes before he made the call.

Andrzej Skoczylas: {J-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Andrei Grimberg: {6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Vladas Tamasauskas: {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}

Tamasauskas held the nuts with a straight on the flop but had to sweat a flush draw from Grimberg and a boat draw from Skoczylas.

The {6-Diamonds} increased the odds for Tamasuskas to win a huge pot and eliminate Grimberg at the same time. However, he had to settle for a side pot after the {8-Clubs} spiked the river to give Grimberg a flush and a triple up.

Final Blind Level Begins

Level 6 : 400/800, 800 ante

Level 6 just kicked off with blinds at 400/800 with a big blind ante of 800. The field has grown to 54 entrants with 48 players remaining.

State Hits the Rail

Level 5 : 300/600, 600 ante

With already about 10,000 in the pot on the turn, Tobias Peters led out for 7,300 with the board reading {5-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. Adrien-Sorel State jammed for about 17,000 and was insta-called by Peters, who more than had his opponent covered.

State held {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} for top pair and was drawing dead against the flush held by Peters with {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}. The {8-Diamonds} on the river made things official and State wished said to his table, "good game."

After the hand, an opponent questioned whether Peters would have gotten it in earlier, and he shared, "I would have gotten it in on any flop."

Meanwhile, on the same table, Bulgaria's Daniel Chutrov has one of the bigger stacks in play of around 60,000.

He got up for a stretch and shared that some of it came during Level three with blinds at 150/300 with a big blind ante of 300.

Chutrov three-bet his opponent from 600 to 2,000 and got a call. He then continued for 1,600 after his opponent checked on a {7-}{7-}{j-} rainbow flop. His opponent led out for 3,200 after the {A-} appeared on the turn and Chutrov called.

The {J-} double-paired the board on the river and Chutrov's opponent check-called a bet of 4,500. Chutrov turned over pocket sevens for quads and won the pot.
