Scott "Sco" McMillan Wins Back-to-Back Unibet Open Esports Battle Royale

Scott "Sco" McMillan wins back-to-back Esports Battle Royale

Scott “Sco” McMillan won the Esports Battle Royale at the Unibet Open in Bucharest after defeating Alan “Hotted89” Widmann heads-up to take down the top prize of €5,000 and to win back-to-back titles in this event. Widmann collected €3,000 for his second place finish, while Jordy “MojoOnPC” Janssens, runner-up last time, banked the third-place prize of €2,000.

"Sco", founder and co-owner of Method, originally a World of Warcraft team that has turned into an industry leading esports organisation, was fired up about winning two Esports Battle Royale tournaments in a row as well as shipping two events in one day.

“It actually feels amazing because the players that got invited to this tournament were all really good," shared "Sco" to PokerNews. "It feels absolutely amazing and it was really unexpected. My team also won the Tag Team event earlier today so I must be running really well right now.”

"Sco" was the defending champion after also conquering the Esports Battle Royale at the last Unibet Open stop in Malta back in May. Winning the Esports Battle Royale in Malta isn't the only tournament victory he had at a Unibet Open stop, he also added another title to his name earlier today. McMillan shipped the Tag Team event together with Unibet Poker Ambassador Rauno "Estonian Jesus" Tahvonen to make it a day to remember.

As is always the case during the Esports Battle Royale, nine esports superstars kicked off the action, all hoping to become the next Esports Battle Royale winner and €5,000 richer.

Tyler “Wildcat” Wine was the first player eliminated in ninth place. He lost a big chunk of his stack before his final chips were history when his ace-queen was outmatched by the pocket aces of Nathan “NBK” Schmitt.

The next player to exit the tournament was Dutch Hearthstone player Thijs “Thijs” Molendijk. Molendijk lost a big part of his stack with two pair against a better two pair of the eventual winner “Sco”. His final 20 big blinds went to the middle on an ace high flop where “Thijs” had top pair. Unfortunately for “Thijs”, it was “Hotted89” who had flopped middle set and took all of his remaining chips.

No success for popular Hearthstone streamer Thijs "Thijs" Molendijk

Nathan “NBK” Schmitt, Keiron “Scoom” Prescott and Sophia “Djarii” White were the next players eliminated from the tournament without taking home any prize money.

This left four hopefuls on the €2,000 bubble and German Phil "syrinxx" Schönebaum ended up as the unfortunate bubble boy after running his open-ended straight draw into the flush draw of “Hotted89”. “Syrinxx” was able to hit a pair on the turn, but “Hotted89” hit a straight on the river to send the German home empty-handed.

The action moved at a faster pace after the bubble broke. Jordy “MojoOnPC” Janssens was the first player to be sent to the cashier after he first doubled through “Sco”, but then one hand later he doubled “Sco” to leave himself with just two big blinds. A couple hands later he put his final chips in the middle with four-deuce, only to lose the hand to “Hotted89” with ace-five.

The heads-up between “Hotted89” and “Sco” didn’t last too long either. “Hotted89” lost a couple hands in the beginning to leave himself with just 10 big blinds and a couple hands later he put himself at risk by jamming king-trey. After almost three minutes “Sco” called with ten-nine and they watched the dealer open up a board where “Sco” ended up on top.

"Hotted89" Eliminated in 2nd Place (€3,000)

Level 14 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Alan "Hotted89" Widmann

Alan "Hotted89" Widmann moved all in from the button with {K-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} for 63,000. Scott "Sco" McMillan took about three minutes before making the call with {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}.

"Hotted89" had a 54% chance to double up. The board ran out {10-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and that meant that "Hotted89" busted out of the tournament losing the heads-up and that Scott "Sco" McMillan won his second tournament of the day and also his second esports Battle Royale in a row.

"Hotted89" Bleeding Chips

Level 14 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Alan "Hotted89" Widmann lost a couple of hands in a row to Scott "Sco" McMillan to start off the heads-up. Since they have such shallow stacks a couple of hands already can make a huge difference in stacks.

"Hotted89" did manage to win some chips back by moving all in a couple of times.

Level 13 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Jordy "MojoOnPC" Janssens moved all in for his last 5,500 and Alan "Hotted89" Widmann isolated by three-betting. "Sco" folded and they opened up.

"MojoOnPC" had {4-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and he had to win against "Hotted89" his {A-Spades}{5-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {7-Hearts}{K-Spades}{K-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Clubs} and "Hotted89" won because of his ace kicker.

"MojoOnPC" collects €2,000 for his third-place finish in the esports Battle Royale.
