Main Event

Day 1a Started

The Main Event Kicks Off at 11 A.M.

A new day, a new tournament. Today will mark the start of the €1,100 Main Event in the JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel. The Unibet Open is looking to crown a champion in this event on August 5th after three days of play.

This is the third time the Unibet Open is in Bucharest. Traian Bostan won the tournament in 2016 who defeated a field of 603 entries collecting a nice payday of €100,000. Last years tournament saw a small decline in attendance numbers after the Main Event drew 502 hopefuls in 2017. Marius Pertea won the tournament last year, banking €90,925

Day 1a of the €1,100 Main Event will play out over 11 levels of 60 minutes. There will be a break after every two levels and all the players will start with 30,000 chips. The registration of the tournament is open until the end of level seven and play will conclude at approximately midnight local time. New at this Unibet Open stop is the option for the players who play Day 1a or Day 1b to re-enter the tournament and play Day 1c, a turbo version of Day 1 featuring 20-minute levels.

The PokerNews team will be here in Bucharest to cover the event from start to finish.

Shuffle Up and Deal

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Players are slowly dripping into the tournament area and taking their seats as the "shuffle up and deal" was announced. Players start with 30,000 and blinds being 50/100 so there's plenty of room for the players to play.

Short Handed Play

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Quite a lot of the seven-handed tables have only four seats occupied as a lot of players decided to come in a little bit later. Most of them who are already registered in the tournament are coming in a little bit late but they're slowly filling up all the tables.

Moolhuizen Starts Off Bluffing

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

With the {9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} board already out there Mateusz Moolhuizen was facing a bet of 700 from the player two to his right, Paz Shkalim. Mateusz put in a pink 500 chip and two yellow 1,000 chips to raise to 2,500 but Shkalim thought Moolhuizen had called his bet.

Shkalim opened up {K-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for just king high, but Moolhuizen showed {8-Diamonds}{4-Spades} for the bluff. After Shkalim saw the pot move to Moolhuizen he asked why he lost the hand and that's the moment he visibly realized Moolhuizen didn't call his bet of 700 but he actually raised to 2,500.

No Calls for Callens

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Daiva Byrne
Daiva Byrne

Daiva Byrne raised from the under the gun position on the 5-handed table to 250 and Chaim Koifman called from the button. Ann-Roos Callens sat in the small blind and had entirely different plans as she three-bet to 1,200. Both Byrne and Koifman called.

The flop came down {4-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{J-Spades} and Callens continued with a bet of 2,400. Byrne thought about it for a minute before she threw her cards in the muck, as did Koifman.

Dehlia de Jong is also seated at the table with Callens and Byrne and with that there are more women at table 35 than men.

Value for Suliman

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Yaaqov Suliman limped from late position and Alex Hendriks raised to 450 from the big blind. Suliman called to see the {J-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop come down.

Hendriks checked this time to Suliman and he decided to take over the lead with a bet of 1,000. Hendriks called and the turn was the {2-Spades}.

Hendriks checked again to Suliman and this time he fired out a bet of 3,000. Hendriks didn't take too long to announce the call to go to the {3-Spades} river card.

Both players checked on the complete board and Suliman showed {Q-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} to win the hand.
