Eckert Finishes Off Karlsson

Level 18 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Mats Karlsson
Mats Karlsson

Earlier, Jan Eckert en Mats Karlsson played a big hand where Karlsson ended up folding the turn. Karlsson later claimed to have folded pocket jacks in the hand. An orbit later, the two tangled again in a big pot and this time, Eckert took the rest of the Maltese resident as well.

Preflop, Karlsson had defended the big blind against a middle position raise from Eckhert. The flop was {2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and Karlsson check-raised a bet of 35,000 to 100,000, which Eckert called. Karlsson bet the {5-Diamonds} on the turn as well and Eckert called once again.

Karlsson slowed down and checked when the {J-Hearts} fell on the river. Eckert moved all in, which was effectively for Karlsson's remaining stack of 220,000. After a minute, he flicking in one chip to indicate a call.

Eckert tabled {A-Diamonds}{4-Spades} for the turned wheel, Karlsson mucked {10-Spades}{7-Spades} and finished in 19th place (€3,010).

Ace on the River Doesn't Help Philippe

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Frederic Philippe
Frederic Philippe

[Removed:155] raised to 22,000 in early position, Frederic Philippe three-bet shoved 73,000 from the small blind, Kristof Segers shoved as well from the big blind and Brand folded.

Frederic Philippe: {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Kristof Segers: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

It was a classic race between Philippe and Segers and the latter remained ahead on the {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}{10-Clubs} flop. The {9-Clubs} on the turn sealed it for the Belgian, and the {A-Diamonds} on the river was just to rub salt in Philippe's wound. He finished 20th for €3,010.

Shortly after, he raised from under the gun and got a three-bet from Henri Piironen on the button. This time, Nordahl did call to see a flop but folded to a 50,000 continuation bet on {8-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades}.

Two Hands End It for Sinclair

Level 16 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Jack Sinclair
Jack Sinclair

The biggest name left in the field busted shortly before the dinner break in 22nd place. Sinclair played two big hands in the last level that spelt his demise.

The first one was a clash against Daniel Aaberg that left Sinclair behind with around 20 big blinds. Sinclair raised from under the gun with {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and Aaberg three-bet two seats over from a stack of around 30 big blinds. Sinclair had around 50 bigs and called.

The flop was {J-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and Sinclair check-called around a quarter pot from Aaberg. The turn was the {4-Clubs} and Sinclair checked again. Aaberg wasted no time and snap-checked behind with around 80% of the pot in his stack left.

On the {6-Clubs} river, Sinclair shipped top pair and Aaberg instantly called with {A-Spades}{6-Spades} for the rivered trip sixes.

In the final hand before the dinner break, Sinclair had 26 big blinds when he raised {A-Spades}{10-Spades} from the small blind. His opponent three-bet shoved {A-}{Q-} and Sinclair called. The Brit's out got improved to a straight flush draw on the turn but he bricked the river to end up in 22nd place (€2,690).
