Fewer than half an hour is left on the clock and several players are gunning for the chip lead. Jarred Graham has been hiding on a corner table with a decent stack to become a contender but it appears that Jonathan Braude is the current front runner.
The shove by Panayioti Karamanolis was for only 29,000 and Dale Marsland called one seat over in the small blind.
Panayioti Karamanolis: A♦5♥
Dale Marsland: Q♠Q♣
The Q♦9♦5♣ flop left Karamanolis on the ropes but he gained some outs with the [8d turn after picking up a flush draw. However, there was no miracle escape on the 10♥ river to send the pot over to Marsland.
Alan Wilson was all in from the small blind on the 4♠10♦9♣ flop, at risk against Haitao Wang in middle position.
Alan Wilson: A♦4♦
Haitao Wang: Q♥Q♦
Wilson stood up as the 2♣ turn and J♥ river were no help, hitting the rail as his stack was sent to Wang.
Zac Vigar was all-in for a shorter stack and had the best of it against Paul O'Brein with K♥Q♦ versus Q♥10♠.
However, the 10♥5♦7♦8♥A♥ runout provided the ten on the flop to send Vigar out. Liam Jehu took his vacated seat, and Gary Benson also entered there, too.
The final flight has reached the last level of play, with just 40 minutes remaining on the clock before bagging for Day 2.
Level: 12
Blinds: 1,500/3,000
Ante: 3,000
Ruben Padilla flipped against Zhenyi Lin with the latter at risk for only 17,000.
Zhenyi Lin: 7♦7♣
Ruben Padilla: K♥Q♠
The pocket pair remained ahead all the way on the J♥9♠2♦A♠2♥ board for Lin to survive, at least for now.
Adam Cusenza three-bet from the small blind to 21,500, and Martin Pound made the call on the button. Cusenza led out for 12,500 on the J♥6♣Q♥ flop, and Pound called to see the 7♦ turn.
Cusenza announced all in, covering his opponent's remaining stack. Pound used a time bank card before letting his hand go, and Cusenza raked in the pot.
At just after 8 p.m. local time, the poker room at Crown Melbourne is buzzing with music from a nearby nightclub and there are a ton of cash games running. Near the end of the penultimate level for the Victorian Poker Champs Main Event, the field has climbed to 211 entries of which 118 players remain.
Jackson Young is among them after he knocked out Simon Avrutis with A♣5♠ versus J♣3♦ when the latter was all-in for fumes. Kelvin Li and Ardit Kumar also bowed out near the frantic business end of the day.
On a flop of Q♥6♥6♣, Jeison Berdugo checked out of the big blind and then instantly called all-in for 43,000 when Ardit Kumar jammed.
Jeison Berdugo: 6♦5♦
Ardit Kumar: 8♣8♠
The 6♠ turn gave Berdugo quads to render the 7♦ river to a formality.
On a nearby table, the miracle comeback of David Xie was cut short.
