Life Outside Poker: Why HCL Boss Ryan Feldman Was Kicked Out of the WSOP Main Event

Ryan Feldman, co-owner of Hustler Casino Live, revealed on PokerNews' Life Outside Poker podcast that he was kicked out of the 2016 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event over a conflict of interest stemming from his employment at ESPN.

In the 16th episode of the podcast, host Connor Richards speaks with the producer/founder of the most popular livestream in poker history about why he was booted from poker's biggest tournament, along with numerous other topics such as sports journalism, interviewing star athletes, leaving ESPN to start a poker stream, founding HCL and putting together some of the most entertaining lineups in poker history.

This interview was filmed in July at the 2024 WSOP inside Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

After a limp by Guillaume Pley from the hijack, the small blind called and Thomas Sacquet in the big blind checked his option.

The small blind checked the 2♣K♥K♦ flop, but Sacquet led out for 700. Pley called while the small blind fold.

Both Sacquet and Pley checked the Q♦ turn leading to the 9♥ river where Sacquet bet 600 with 9♣2♥ for two pair. Pley quickly called with A♣J♦ and lost the pot.

The K♣3♦5♠ flop saw the action checked to Banovic, who took the lead for 1,600. The big blind folded and Ozer made the call.

The 9♥ turn prompted Ozer to play out of flow, leading for 3,500. Banovic responded with a raise to 11,200 and Ozer snap-folded.

The A♠Q♥6♥ flop saw Badem check-call a bet of 2,500 from Lansade.

The 6♠ turn checked through to the J♦ on the river. Badem retook the lead with a bet of 6,500 and Lansade made the call. Badem tabled 8♠7♠ for a missed flush draw, while Lansade claimed this pot holding K♦K♣.

Zoltan Kovacs raised to 800 from the hijack, but Javier Fernandez three-bet to 2,500 from the button. Christophe Charlet called from the small blind, while Mikael "Shishi" Berrio Busto in the big blind folded.

When the action came back to him, Kovacs four-bet to 8,500. Fernandez went into the tank and called, as well as Charlet.

The dealer fanned a flop of A♦9♥K♦ and Kovacs continued for 17,000. Fernandez quickly folded, and it didn't take long for Charlet to fold too.

The A♥ river prompted a check from Deshaies. Kriss sized up to 7,000 and Deshaies made a swift call. Kriss tolled over 2♦2♠ for a flopped set. Deshaies mucked K♥Q♠ face up, having flopped two pair
