From $250,000 Super High Rollers to the €500 Winamax Poker Open Aix-les-Bains Main Event at Casino Grand Cercle, things don't look very different: in both events, Adrian Mateos is the man to follow.
Just like in the higher-stakes events, the six-time WSOP bracelet winner climbed to the top of the counts after Day 1b, leading the 127 remaining players from a massive field of 763 entries. Today's entries brought the overall total to 1,149, with the final two flights tomorrow expected to double that number.
Mateos bagged 906,000 after quickly doubling up through defending champion Jeremy Cauchard, then applying pressure on the bubble and "scaring" his opponents, according to what some of them told PokerNews. Not included in this list was Antoine Crepeau (894,000), who was seated to Mateos' right and finished with the second-biggest stack of the day.
In a completely different style, Azzedine Khairani said that he was playing "his first tournament in five years." His comeback has been crowned with success so far, as he is third in chips with 842,000, slightly ahead of Vincent Tuet (802,000).

Nordine Afalah crossed the million-chip mark during the final levels, but he allowed Louis Bouillon-Vassard to double up on the bubble, reducing his stack to 764,000. Just like he does when he competes at the Olympics, biathlete Florent Claude is skiing right in his tracks with 701,000, followed by Thomas Bus (691,000) and Maxime Large (640,000).
Alongside French streamer Mathieu Pontin (487,000), 2024 champion Aliosha Staes lost a coin flip not long before the dinner break but managed to double up with aces moments before the bubble to reach 480,000.
Andrea Binotto (437,000), Adrien Romeuf (414,000), Hugo Menant (407,000) and one of the early chip leaders, Marine Khamvongsa (326,000), advance to Day 2 with stacks slightly above average. Kevin Dedner (270,000) is still in contention as well, alongside Heni Mokni (268,000), Matthieu Lamagnere (266,000), Cyril Fabre (266,000) and Maxime Rapp (255,000).
Hugo Blaison bubbled this flight last year, but not this time, as he bagged 99,000. Winamax streamer Hadrien Gallois could have been the one to fall short of the money, but he will take home at least €1,000 on Saturday thanks to his 21,000-chip stack.
The 190 players already qualified for Day 2 will be joined this Friday, September 25, by those who will play the final two flights of this Main Event. Day 1c will begin at noon local time and follow the same structure as the previous flights, while Day 1d, which starts at 7 p.m., will feature 15-minute levels.
