Rettenmaier Shoves River

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

A player in the small blind and Marvin Rettenmaier, who was in early position, each put in 80,000 on a {4-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{q-Diamonds} flop. On the {j-Clubs} turn, the small blind asked how much Rettenmaier had left and then checked. "Mad Marvin" fired small with 55,000 and the small blind called. On the {8-Clubs} river, Rettenmaier shoved all in when checked to. His opponent tanked a couple of minutes and folded for the 247,000.

He asked Rettenmaier to show the bluff but the German mucked.

Mermelstein Folds to Alexander

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

We found Aaron Mermelstein with 160,000 in front of him in middle position on a {9-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop. DJ Alexander had made it 415,000 from the button, and Mermelstein was in the tank. He eventually folded and Alexander flashed a card before dragging the pot. From what we gathered in the chatter after the hand, Mermelstein had check-raised the flop and the card Alexander flashed was a ten.

Anthony Spinella
Anthony Spinella

Anthony Spinella defended big blind against a Maxx Coleman early open and the two saw a board of {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{6-Clubs} with Spinella check-calling 40,000 and then 100,000. Spinella's third check prompted Coleman to immediately fire 250,000, and Spinella mucked in short order with a pat of the table.

Shovin' It

Level 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Here is what's going on as we approach the end of level 21 at the WinStar River Poker Series Main Event. These players all got shoves through in the last few minutes.

  • Aaron Massey raised over a Gary Otake early position limp and Chengce Jiang raised all in from the big blind. Otake folded and Massey took about thirty seconds before folding as well. Patrick Eskandar, who is sitting between the two, said that the only question he had about Jiang's hand was whether he had two black aces, or two red, or a combination.

Jiang looked at him and then flipped over the {8-Diamonds}.

  • Mike Dentale was the next player to get shoved on. He opened to 41,000 and Paul Baffi shoved all in for 390,000. Dentale took a moment before folding, and commented on the size of Baffi's shove.

"Honestly, I just don't want to see a flop," Baffi said.

"How do you know I don't have you beat right now?" asked Dentale.

  • Finally, Taylor Black checked to Justin Kruger with the flop reading {10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Kruger shoved all in for about 180,000. Black was sitting with 340,000 and eventually flicked his cards into the muck.
