Level 25 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante

Day 2 of the 2019 WinStar Labor Day River Poker Series $1,500 Main Event saw 151 players return to play under one roof for the first time after three initial Day 1 flights throughout the weekend. Play began with the entire field having made it into the money, already guaranteed a first-level payout of $2,645.

The day was scheduled to play to whichever came first between the conclusion of 10 one-hour levels or the field reaching the official final table of nine players. It appeared as if the 10 full hours would be a lock, though a slightly-shortened end did become a possibility as just 10 players were still standing when the day came to an end.

When play finished, Eric Bunch found himself atop the chip counts after ending the day with 7.865 million in chips. A few of the other nine players looking up at him are Spencer Champlin (6.75 million), Eluterio Rodriguez (1.77 million), and Viet Vo (620,000).

Day 2 Action

There was no bubble in play when the day began and it didn’t take long for the rungs on the payout ladder to be climbed. Players such as Shawn Rice, Ray Henson, WinStar Ambassador Maria Ho were all eliminated before the first break of the day, with plenty more joining them along the way.

Will Berry (52nd place - $5,644), defending champion Will Pengelly (40th place - $6,525), and Kelly Minkin (31st place - $8,465) were a few other well-known players to find themselves with no chips to play as the day progressed.

Family affairs were another theme on Day 2, with brothers Tim- (58th place - $5,115) and Brandon Gilliam (37th place - $6,525) both making it through several payout levels through the day. They were not the only pair of related genes in the field, as they were both outdone by the father and son duo of Keith Copp (21st place - $13,580) and Kramer Copp (15th place - $19,929).

Copp's elimination came during the final level of the night, shortly after Don Goodman was eliminated in 16th place, which also came in the last level. It set off a slew of bust outs, with Copp, Joe Cho (14th place), Caibin Ai (13th place), James Mordue (12th place), and Craig Kinney (11th place) all seeing their visions of advancing to Day 3 crushed within the final hour of play on Day 2.

The final 10 players will return on Tuesday to play down to a winner. Play will resume at noon local time, beginning with a full hour on the clock for the beginning of Level 26 (40,000/80,000/80,000). Come back to PokerNews to see who reigns supreme en route to a $300,005 first-place prize on the final day of the WinStar River Main Event

Offutt Leaves Barker With Crumbs to End the Day

Level 25 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Katherine Offutt
Katherine Offutt

On the last hand of the evening, Eric Bunch raised to 150,000 from the hijack, and Chuck Barker three-bet shoved for 1.2 million in the cutoff. Katherine Offutt called off her last 1.08 million, and Bunch folded.

Katherine Offutt: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}
Chuck Barker: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

Offutt told her rail the good news, and Barker couldn't make a miracle happen on a {6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{q-Clubs} runout, leaving him with fewer than two big blinds to start play tomorrow.

Craig Kinney Eliminated in 11th Place ($24,338)

Level 25 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Craig Kinney
Craig Kinney

Action folded to Eric Bunch, who was on the button and announced he was all in to put the players in the blinds at a decision for their stacks. Craig Kinney was in the small blind and called off the just-under 2 million that remained in his stack.

Eric Bunch: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Craig Kinney: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

The two found themselves in a massive coin flip situation with just minutes left on the clock before the end of the night. The flop came in Bunch's favor, coming {j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{q-Hearts} to give him top set. Kinney was then in need of spiking a ten to improve to Broadway. The turn {a-Diamonds} and river {a-Clubs} filled him up to trips, but it gave Bunch a full house and sent Kinney home in 11th place shortly before the evening's conclusion.

James Mordue Eliminated in 12th Place ($24,338)

Level 25 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
James Mordue
James Mordue

James Mordue jammed for 425,000 from under the gun, and Spencer Champlin called in the hijack.

James Mordue: {a-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Spencer Champlin: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}

Mordue, who had been grinding a short stack for the better part of two levels, finally succumbed when the {5-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Clubs} board failed to deliver him an ace.

"Good job, guys!" a smiling Mordue told the table. He asked to thank Yoli, Daniel and Jade for their support before making his way to the payout desk.

Caibin Ai Eliminated in 13th Place ($19,929)

Level 25 : 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Caibin Ai
Caibin Ai

Eric Bunch raised to 155,000 from under the gun and was three-bet to 350,000 by Caibin Ai out of the hijack. Action folded back to Bunch and he called, bringing a flop of {10-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{a-Hearts}.

Bunch checked to Ai, who put out a continuation-bet of 400,000. Bunch check-raised to 1 million and Ai came over the top of him, ripping in the last of his chips. Bunch quickly called and turned over his hand.

Eric Bunch: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Caibin Ai: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}

"Gah!" said Ai, realizing his top pair, top kicker was in need of running outs to a full house or quads to stay alive in the tournament. The turn came blank to leave him drawing dead before the runout completed and he was congratulated on a well-played tournament, finishing in 13th place.

Meanwhile, the other table saw James Jewell open to 135,000 from the cutoff and James Mordue shoved his last 375,000 in from the big blind. Jewell called.

James Mordue: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
James Jewell: {5-}{5-}

Mordue's preflop coin flip situation turned bleak on the flop {5-Spades}{8-Spades}{q-Spades} flop. He found luck on his side, however, as the turn {10-Spades} and river {k-Spades} not only brought a flush on board to chop, but also gave him a ladder at the same time as the field was reduced to 12.

Spencer Champlin checked a {7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{9-Spades} board from the small blind, and Eluterio Rodriguez checked the big blind. Joe Cho jammed for 510,000, Champlin called and Rodriguez folded.

Joe Cho: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}
Spencer Champlin: {9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}

Champlin's heater continued, as Cho failed to improve on the {q-Spades} river, leaving him with cracked rockets and no chips.

Spencer Champlin raised to 135,000 on the button, then snapped off a three-bet shove for 905,000 from Kramer Copp in the small blind.

Spencer Champlin: {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

Champlin spiked a st on the {k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop to further cement his lead, and Copp was left drawing dead after the {5-Hearts} turn, before the {j-Diamonds} could fall on the river.

Don Goodman jammed for 920,000 on the button, and Jeremy Liu three-bet shoved for 1.8 million in the small blind, chasing out Kris Burchfield in the big blind.

"Try to win another flip!" Liu said, in reference to his poor showing in recent flips with Burchfield.

Don Goodman: {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}
Kris Burchfield: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

"I'm afraid you're ahead," Goodman quipped.

Liu ended up with a straight on a {7-Spades}{8-Hearts}{j-Spades}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs} board to dispatch Goodman.

"I'm off tilt!" Liu told the table with a grin.

Scott Adrian Eliminated in 18th Place ($16,402)

Level 24 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Scott Adrian
Scott Adrian

Viet Vo was in middle position and opened to 100,000. Scott Adrian went all in over the top of him from the hijack. Action then folded to James Jewell, who announced he was all in from the big blind. Vo quickly called, resulting in hands being tabled and stacks being determined.

Jewell covered both players, with Vo having 690,000 and Adrian having 540,000. Adrian's stack was counted three times and the remaining 150,000 was left in front of Vo.

Scott Adrian: {a-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}
Viet Vo: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
James Jewell: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

Adrian found himself needing to hit an ace for a triple, whereas Jewell could score a double knockout if he hit a nine. However, Vo's kings remained best after the runout came {j-Spades}{5-Spades}{10-Hearts}{7-Spades}{j-Clubs} and he saw a massive pile of chips sent his way, bringing him to just under 2 million as Adrian hit the rail in 18th place.

Table 40 has now been broken as the field has condensed to two tables with 17 players remaining. There is no redraw at 18 but updated seating assignments will be posted for the final two tables momentarily nonetheless.
