Hellmuth Strikes Out

Level 7 : 150/300, 25 ante
Phil Hellmuth and PokerNews' Chad Holloway
Phil Hellmuth and PokerNews' Chad Holloway

Gary Benson opened for 600 and action folded to 13-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, who was already all in from the big blind for his last 275.

"I haven't looked," Hellmuth said before revealing his hand.

Hellmuth: {a-Clubs}{8-Hearts}
Benson: {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}

Hellmuth seemed delighted to be in a race situation, but his enthusiasm dampened when the flop came down {4-Clubs}{7-Spades}{k-Diamonds}.

"Oh, that's not good," Hellmuth said. The {2-Clubs} turn left him drawing dead, and as the dealer put out the {6-Hearts} on the river, Hellmuth was already busy shaking hands with everyone at the table.

"What time do we start tomorrow? I should probably show up before 15 bigs," Hellmuth said before departing. For what it's worth, Day 1b will kick off at 12:10 p.m. local time on Friday, with Day 1c following later that evening at 6:10 p.m.

Updated Chip Counts

Level 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

Here's a few updated chip counts, including 13-time gold bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth's stack of 350. Since jumping in late and losing a couple early pots, Hellmuth has since folded his way down to just over one big blind.

Zheng Busts To Guerin

Level 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

Once again there was action on Table 28, and it was Didier Guerin involved against Jackson Zheng this time. Guerin got it in preflop against Zheng with the {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}. Zheng had the {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}.

The dealer spread the {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop, and Zheng was instantly dead. There was nothing that could save Zheng, but the {K-Spades} river only put more salt into his wound as Guerin won the pot.

Aggressive Tactics Working for Lim

Level 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

Aaron Lim has been amassing chips, and he's been doing so without seeing a flop.

In a recent hand, the player on the button raised only to have the small blind three-bet to 1,650. Perhaps smelling blood in the water, Lim announced that he was all in from the big blind. The original raiser folded, and the small blind, who had about 6,000 back, thought for a minute before releasing his cards.

In the very next hand, the player in the hijack opened for 650 and his counterpart in the cutoff called. When action reached Lim in the small blind, he evidently thought a three-bet was in order as he popped it to 2,325. It did the trick as both his opponents folded.

Clements Rushing

Level 7 : 150/300, 25 ante
Scott Clements
Scott Clements

With $6,222,799 in live tournament earnings, Scott Clements has won plenty of poker tournaments, including two World Series of Poker gold bracelets. Both of those bracelets came from Omaha events, though, meaning this could be the ticket to Clements' first piece of hold'em gold.

Clements recently spiked a rush of cards that has seen him shoot up to 32,000. Since coming back from break, he's picked up some nice pots and also busted two players. One of those players was David Bowen, who four-bet shoved with {A-}{7-} but couldn't beat Clements' {Q-}{Q-}.

Givotovsky Five-Bet Jams Into Honeyman

Level 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

Just before the last break, a big pot had developed between Dylan Honeyman and Alek Givotovsky. We arrived after action completed, but we were able to determine some details. From what we could piece together, Honeyman had opened with a raise from the button only to have Givotovsky three-bet from the big blind. Honeyman responded with a four-bet, and then called off for about 15,000 when Givotovsky five-bet jammed.

Honeyman: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Givotovsky: {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Givotovsky picked the wrong time to shove, and he was punished for it after the board ran out a dry {2-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{k-Hearts}. Honeyman doubled on the hand, while Givotovsky, who was crippled, fell shortly thereafter.

Piper picks on Giesbrecht

Level 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

In the very last hand before the break, Sean Giesbrecht hit the rail in a confrontation with Marko Piper. Once again the pocket kings of Giesbrecht didn't hold up, this time he was defeated by {8-} {5-} out of the blinds.

Piper pushed all in with top pair and a gutshot on the turn of an eight-high board when Giesbrecht bet 7,000 into a pot of 8,000. He got called and a deuce on the river improved Piper to a straight.

"I Just Got Off the Plane"

Level 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

That's what Jonathan Little told us as he took his seat at Table 29.

"I didn't even know I could play today," he explained. Indeed he could, but just barely as he got in with literally less than two minutes to spare. Little said he was a bit tired, but he's going to try his best to tough it out for the last two levels.
