Zane Ly Leads Final Six; Jeff Lisandro Chases Sixth Gold Bracelet

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Zane Ly

The third Day 3 of the 2014 World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific has been reached, and for the second time this festival it will be an all-Australian affair.

Six players will return tomorrow to conclude the AU$1,650 Pot-Limit Omaha event and crown the third gold bracelet winner from Down Under this year. Leading the pack is Zane Ly, who is appearing at his second final table this series. Earlier in the AU$1,100 No-Limit Hold'em Accumulator, Ly finished in sixth place and took home AU$25,234. He bagged up a field-leading 181,000 in chips.

Coming in places two, three, and four on the leader board are three Australian Poker Hall of Fame members — Jason Gray (160,000), Jeff Lisandro (69,000), and Gary Benson (68,000). Lisandro will be looking to earn his sixth WSOP gold bracelet, whereas Benson will aim for his second.

And then you have the two Pauls — Paul Sharbanee with 46,000, and Paul Mac with 34,000 — bringing up the rear.

At the start of Day 2, 22 players remained. Six of those needed to hit the rail before the money was reached, and Daniel Chevalier was the first to go. He was followed out the door by Ami Barer, Tam Truong, Darian Tan, and Michael Wang before Edison Nguyen was eliminated on the bubble in 17th place.

After Nguyen's finish just outside the money, Van Marus, David Lim, Mike Watson, Paul Elliott, Scott Davies, Ismael Bojang, and Mel Judah all headed to the payout desk. It was then that the remaining nine players formed around one table. Vadim Pinsky hit the rail in ninth place, and Oliver Gill headed out the door in eighth. That left just seven players and only one more needed to go home before play was ended for the night. That proved to be Stephen Woodhead in seventh place.

Each of the six remaining competitors has locked up a minimum of AU$9,282. Up top is AU$51,660 plus the coveted WSOP gold bracelet. Play will resume at 12:10 p.m. local time tomorrow, and you can be sure to find all the live updates from start to finish right here on PokerNews.com.

Stephen Woodhead Eliminated in 7th Place (AU$7,146)

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Stephen Woodhead - 7th Place
Stephen Woodhead - 7th Place

In a battle of the blinds, Stephen Woodhead and Paul Sharbanee got their stacks in preflop for the following showdown:

Woodhead: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Clubs}
Sharbanee: {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}

The flop was {9-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{7-Diamonds}, and the turn was the {J-Clubs}. The river completed the board with the {J-Diamonds}, and Sharbanee doubled up with a flush.

From that, Woodhead had 2,000 chips left, and he was all in from the button the next hand. Sharbanee called from the small blind, and Gary Benson raised to 14,000 from the big blind to produce a successful isolation.

Woodhead: {A-Hearts}{7-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}
Benson: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}

The board ran out {5-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{5-Spades}{10-Hearts}, and Benson's ace high with a king kicker won the pot to eliminate Woodhead in seventh place.

Oliver Gill Eliminated in 8th Place (AU$5,603)

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante
Oliver Gill - 8th Place
Oliver Gill - 8th Place

From under the gun, Oliver Gill raised to 7,500. Action then folded to Zane Ly on the button, and he reraised to 16,500. After the blinds folded, Gill quickly made the call.

"You still cover, right?" Gill asked Ly. Ly responded with a nod.

The flop came down {9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds}, and Gill pushed a bunch of chips forward. He had bet more than the pot, but was only allowed to wager 37,500, because that was the size of the bet. Ly announced a call, and then Gill tabled his hand to reveal the {Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades}. Ly didn't show his hand, and this is when Gary Benson immediately chimed in to inform Gill that he shouldn't be showing his hand because he couldn't bet more than the pot and Ly only said he was calling.

Benson asked if a penalty would be issued, as it is a World Series of Poker rule that a player is to receive a penalty if he or she exposes his or her hand with action pending — and that's what Gill did.

"The penalty will be assessed after the hand," said the tournament director, who was right there to witness everything play out. "Let's finish the hand first."

"Well, I've only got seven thousand left," said Gill. "I'm not folding any turns." Gill then stuck in his last 7,000 in the dark.

Ly had only called the 37,500 on the flop and opted to wait to see a turn card, which was the {4-Clubs} to pair the board. Ly tossed in the 7,000 to make the call and then showed his {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. Gill had the {Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades}.

The river completed the board with the {2-Hearts}, and that was the end of the line for Gill.

"Just naked kings with a three-bet?" Gill questioned as he stood from the table staring at the board. "That's interesting."

With that, Gill finished in eighth place for AU$5,603, while Ly increased his stack to a chip leading 149,500.

Also of note is that Ly finished in sixth place in the first event of the series, the AU$1,100 No-Limit Hold'em Accumulator. There he took home AU$25,234, and this marks his second final table in three events for the 2014 WSOP Asia-Pacific.

Mel Judah Eliminated in 10th Place (AU$4,472)

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante
Mel Judah - 10th Place
Mel Judah - 10th Place

Action folded to Australian Poker Hall of Famer Mel Judah on the button and he raised the pot, leaving himself not much behind. Oliver Gill then three-bet from the small blind and Judah called off after the big blind folded.

Judah: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{5-Spades}{6-Hearts}
Gill: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

Both player shared an ace and king, but Judah paired one of his other cards on the {5-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. He also flopped a heart flush draw. The {4-Spades} turn was inconsequential, but the {Q-Spades} river was not. Gill managed to spike a bigger pair and a clearly frustrated Judah had to settle for 10th place.

Ismael Bojang Eliminated in 11th Place (AU$3,633)

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 0 ante
Ismael Bojang - 11th Place
Ismael Bojang - 11th Place

On the button, Paul Sharbanee limped in for 1,200. Ismael Bojang called from the small blind, and then Mel Judah checked his option in the big blind to allow the three players to see the {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Hearts} flop for the minimum. All three checked, and the turn was the {5-Diamonds}. Bojang and Judah checked fourth street, and Sharbanee bet 3,000. Bojang called, and Judah folded.

With 4,000 left in his stack on the river, Bojang stuck them all in when the {K-Clubs} hit the end of the board. Sharbanee made the call, and Bojang acknowledged that he was best, showing his {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. Sharbanee had the {A-Spades}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and won the pot.

Scott Davies Eliminated in 12th Place (AU$3,633)

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 0 ante
Scott Davies
Scott Davies

The action folded to Scott Davies on the button and he raised, Jeff Lisandro three-bet out of the big blind to 8,700 and Davies peeled to see the {9-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {3-Clubs} flop. Both players checked and the {8-Clubs} turn saw Lisandro bet enough to put Davies all in. The latter ended up calling it off with the {A-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {3-Spades} and Lisandro was way ahead with {A-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {K-Spades} {K-Diamonds}.

Only an eight or three would save Davies and he headed to the payout desk when the {5-Spades} river completed the board. "I am a peeler, I want the bracelet," he said. It would not be a surprise if the American jumped straight into the Terminator Event #4.

Van Marcus Eliminated in 16th Place (AU$2,524)

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 0 ante
Van Marcus - 16th Place
Van Marcus - 16th Place

Gary Benson raised to 2,400 and got called by Scott Davies on the button and Stephen Woodhead on the small blind before Van Marcus squeezed all in from the big blind. Benson and Woodhead folded but Davies called off with slightly more chips than Marcus.

Davies: {K-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {10-Spades} {J-Clubs}
Marcus: {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {3-Clubs}

On the {A-Clubs} 7d] {8-Spades} flop, Marcus found a set of aces whereas Davies had a gutshot. The {5-Clubs} on the turn now gave Davies an additional flush draw, which completed with the {2-Clubs} on the river. "Oh my goodness," Marcus said and then left the table to blow off some steam. He returned to see if he was covered and the dealer confirmed.

"Well done, buddy," he said to Davies and then headed to the payout desk.

Benson Leads; Four Australian Poker Hall of Fame Members Alive

Gary Benson
Gary Benson

Day 2 of the third event of the 2014 World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific will begin at 12:30 p.m. local time. The AU$1,650 Pot-Limit Omaha attracted 123 entries, which was 49 less than last year's contest, but it was still chalk full of notable faces.

Leading the 22 competitors that survived the Day 1 carnage is Gary Benson. Benson is a WSOP gold bracelet winner and a member of the Australian Poker Hall of Fame. He has a total of $1,820,700 in live tournament earnings, but today's it's all about the AU$51,660 top prize in this one and notching his second piece of WSOP hardware.

While Benson bagged up 71,200 in chips to lead the way, another member of the Australian Poker Hall of Fame sits in second place on the leader board with 60,400. That man is five-time WSOP gold bracelet winner Jeff Lisandro.

Behind those two are the likes of Jason Gray (34,500), Ismael Bojang (27,000), Ami Barer (25,600), Van Marcus (21,900), and Mel Judah (15,900). Both Gray and Judah are also members of the Australian Poker Hall of Fame member, while Barer is the reigning Aussie Millions Main Event champion.

The goal for today is to reach the final table, but first the players must maneuver their way into the money. Set to pay the top 16 places, a min-cash will award AU$2,524. Six players will leave empty handed, and those in the most danger are Edison Nguyen (9,400), Michael Wang (8,100), Mike Watson (6,900), and Daniel Chevalier (3,200).

The blinds to start the day will be 400/800, and the four-card action will be hot and heavy from the start. Be sure to stay tuned right here to PokerNews.com as the remaining field works towards a cash and the WSOP final table.
