A Pity for Pitavy

Level 17 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Emilien Pitavy open-jammed the button for 143,000 and Bruno Alava went all-in over the top out of the small blind. Szymon Bujok rubbed his hands before glancing at the cards but then instantly folded to forfeit his big blind.

Emilien Pitavy: 44
Bruno Alava: AK

The flip went to Alava on a board of AK8105 as Pitavy fell behind against the two overcards.

Fortunate Escape for Poirier

Level 17 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Anthony Zinno opened to 20,000 and Francis Poirier then pushed all-in for 161,000. David Ganim flat-called one seat over in the cutoff and it folded back to Zinno, who quickly folded.

Francis Poirier: QQ
David Ganim: AA

The Q9348 runout gave Poirier a set and he escaped from elimination.

"I was very close," Maria Ho said after the hand was over, as she had pondered about her decision for half a minute right next to Ganim.

Hunichen Gives Mandic Unwanted Action

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Chris Hunichen
Chris Hunichen

Goran Mandic moved all in from the cutoff for 210,000, an open-shove worth just over 26 big blinds.

"I don't want action" Mandic commented as Chris Hunichen contemplated his decision on the button.

"You just have fours?" Hunichen inquired, receiving no reply from Mandic. After roughly one minute Hunichen put in the call with a covering stack to put Mandic at risk.

Goran Mandic: AQ
Chris Hunichen: AK

Hunichen had Mandic pipped and remained ahead on the 7566J runout to send Mandic to the rail late in the day and drag in a massive pot.

Jonkers Knocked Out by Sagle

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Mathijs Jonkers had stuck around with a shorter stack for an extended period and ultimately got the last of it in with the A4. That was crushed by Jason Sagle, who had the far superior suited ace holding the AK.

The board ran out K835K and that spelled the end for the Dutchman, a former WSOP Europe Main Event finalist.

Latest Batch of Eliminations

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Only around 130 players remain and several notables were among the recent casualties. That included two former WSOP Main Event champions in Koray Aldemir and Ryan Riess, with 2021 WSOP Player of the Year Josh Arieh also out of chips as well.

Jaka checked again on the 3 river and Pu moved all in for 215,000, slightly covering his opponent. Jaka made the fold and Pu took down a sizable pot without showdown.

Cook Hits a River Double

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Pedro Garagnani had previously three-bet jammed into an open raise to collect the pots, forcing out shorter blinds behind him as well as the initial raiser.

He then opened to 16,000 and Ethan Cook moved all-in for 109,000 in late position. Jeffrey Cormier four-bet jammed in the cutoff and all opponents including Garagnani folded.

Ethan Cook: QJ
Jeffrey Cormier: AQ

Cook needed some heat to stay alive and found a flush draw on the 1054 flop. The 9 turn added an open-ended straight draw to go with it and the 2 river completed the flush for the double.
