Jazzar's Bluff Called

Rony Jazzar must have figured there was only one way he could win the pot -- bet at it. On a board of {8-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {2-Spades} {9-Clubs} {5-Hearts}, Jazzar led out for 30,000 chips. His opponent took a deep breath before calling. Jazzar looked crestfallen, knocking the table "good call." His opponent exhaled and showed {10-Spades} {10-Diamonds}. Jazzar squeezed his cards one time and then sent them spinning into the muck.

Three Outs are Enough Against Haddad

Ramez Haddad
Ramez Haddad
It's hard to catch Ramez Haddad when he's not smiling, but his recent elimination brought the threat of a frown across his face. With his stack whittled down to about 17,000, Haddad moved all in with ace-king. He found action from ace-three, poised for a much-needed double up.

The frown would appear briefly, however, when a second three hit the board. Haddad was unable to catch back up to survive, and he's been sent to the rail as the calls of, "Seat open," continue to ring out.

Echoes of Previous Hands?

Sorel Mizzi and Raymin Zarion dusted it up earlier, with Zarion doubling up Mizzi and his pocket aces. The two just played another pot, with the first pot lingering on Zarion's mind.

There were 23,000 chips in the middle already when Mizzi, out of position, led out for 13,000 on a flop of {8-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}. Zarion called to the {Q-Hearts} turn, a card that brought another bet of 30,500 from Mizzi. That bet seemed to trouble Zarion.

"You have aces again?" he asked Mizzi. Without waiting for a reply, Zarion sighed and mucked his hand.

Ruya Eliminated by Bansi

Praz Bansi has jumped up to 210,000 in chips with the recent elimination of Sargon Ruya.

Bansi opened the pot with a raise to 7,500 and when the action folded around the table to Ruya, he moved all in for approximately 35,000 more. Bansi tanked for a minute or two before Ruya gave a small speech, saying something (most of it inaudible) about either doubling up, or going home. That seemed to make Bansi's decision a bit easier, as he tossed a handful of blue (5,000) chips into the middle to make the call.

Bansi: {A-Spades}{10-Spades}
Ruya: {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}

Bansi hit a ten when the flop came {10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{J-Hearts}, and that was all it took.

Menderes Can't Shake Medic

Medic pondering the call on the turn
It seems like every time we turn around, Nenad Medic is in a pot. He and Zorlu Menderes tangled, creating a pre-flop pot of roughly 40,000 chips. Medic was out of position for the {A-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {3-Spades}. He checked to Menderes, then called a bet of 20,000. The turn paired the board with another ace, the {A-Diamonds}. Again Medic checked and called; this time the amount was 26,800. The river {6-Hearts} went check, check with Medic's {A-Clubs} {8-Spades} taking the pot.

"What, no value bet?" asked observer Tommy Vedes, on a short jaunt away from his table.

Bad Beat for Flack

We suppose that, if you play more than the average share of pots, you'll take more than the average share of bad beats. Layne Flack has taken plenty of bad beats over the course of the three days of this tournament, despite leading the field. He just took another one after mixing it up with Tommy Vedes yet again.

Flack was out of a position for a {6-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} flop. He checked and called a bet of 10,000. On the turn {K-Spades} he took the same line, checking and calling 14,000 more. The river fell {3-Spades} and caused the action to go check, check. Flack might have thought he had at least half of the pot with {A-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}. He therefore seemed particularly irked to see Vedes turn over {K-Clubs} {7-Clubs}, a winning hand that was drawing to just two non-diamond kings after the flop.

Flack Still Moving Forward

Layne Flack squaring up those stacks
From the very beginning of this tournament Layne Flack's stack has been on an upward ascent. That's continuing today on Day 3. He recently took a pot away from Tommy Vedes out of the small blind. Vedes opened for 7,200 preflop and Flack was the only caller. Flack check-called 10,700 on a flop of {J-Spades} {8-Spades} {Q-Hearts}. Both players checked the {7-Hearts} turn. When the river fell {A-Diamonds} Flack cut 18,500 chips off of his stack and threw them in the middle. Vedes tanked for about sixty seconds, looked like he thought about raising, and then mucked.
