Mordoff-Gerin Takes a Few

Rebecca Mordoff-Gerin opened with a raise to 2,300 from under the gun, and it folded around to Anais Lerouge who called from the small blind. The big blind got out, and the flop came {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}. Lerouge checked, Mordoff-Gerin bet 2,500, and Lerouge called. The turn was the {2-Diamonds}, and both players checked.

The river brought the {6-Spades}, and once again both checked. Mordoff-Gerin showed {K-Spades}{J-Spades} for kings, and Lerouge {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}. Mordoff-Gerin has about 42,000 at the moment, while Lerouge has slipped to 23,000.

Bichon is So Sick

A player in middle position raised to 1,725 and Thomas Bichon called on the button.

The flop came down {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} and it was checked to Bichon. He bet 2,225 and was quickly called, landing the {K-Diamonds} on the turn. Both checked this time and the {5-Spades} popped off on the river. Bichon's opponent bet 5,500 and Bichon was not happy about it.

"So sick," he muttered. He played with his chips a bit before giving up his hand, slipping to 15,000 in the process.

The Ladies of Marrakech

Mercedes Osti, down to a short stack, was forced to push all in with {K-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and found herself up against Santiago Terrazas' {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}. The board came {A-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, and Osti was eliminated. Terrazas now has 47,000.

After Osti's knockout, we still have seven women among the 64 Day 1b players left in the field: Marion Nedellec, Liz Lieu, Anais Lerouge, Rebecca Mordoff-Gerin, Melanie Weisner, Alexia Portal, and Karine Nogueira.

Of that group, Mordoff-Gerin has the most chips at present with about 45,000, followed by Portal with 38,000. Nedellec, Lieu, Lerouge, and Nogueira are all hovering right at or below the starting stack of 30,000. And Weisner continues to nurse a short stack of about 15,000.

Sbrzesny Felted at the Dinner Bell

On the last hand before dinner, Bodo Sbrzesny opened to 1,000. Rebecca Mordoff-Gerin raised on the button to 3,200, and the big blind four-bet to 7,600. Sbrzensy took his time deciding to five-bet to 16,000. Mordoff-Gerin got rid of her cards as fast as possible. Then the big blind six-bet shoved. "Uhoh," Sbrzesny said as soon as those tell-tale chips crossed the line. But he called anyway, risking is last 18,000 and his tournament life. As expected, the big blind tabled {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}. Sbrzesny needed big help with his {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}.

The board ran out {9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{5-Spades}{6-Spades}, not much of a sweat. Sbrzensy shook hands with his eliminator and was the first one out the door on the way to dinner.

Chips Before Dinner for ElkY

In the final hand before the break, Bertrand Grospellier opened for 900 from early position, Thomas Bichon called behind, and Karine Nogueira called as well from the big blind.

The flop came {J-Spades}{8-Spades}{10-Hearts}. Nogueira checked, Grospellier bet 1,825, Bichon folded, and Nogueira called. The turn brought the {4-Hearts} and a couple of checks from both players.

All of the other tables had finished their hands and players had left for dinner, leaving just Nogueira -- a.k.a., "LadyKorias" -- and ElkY continuing to play. The river was the {7-Clubs}. Nogueira checked, and Grospellier pushed out a bet of 4,400. Nogueira gathered chips to call, then with wince let her hand go.

After being on fumes for a long stretch, Grospellier goes to the break with a stack of about 20,000. Nogueira has about 40,000.

Late Arrival, Early Exit for Benyamine

David Benyamine came late today, and after about an hour-and-a-half of play, the Parisian had seen his stack slip down to around the 20,000-chip mark. Then came a key hand for him in which he opened with a raise to 1,100 from the button, then the big blind reraised to 3,000. Benyamine instantly shoved all in, and his opponent just as quickly made the call.

Benyamine turned over {A-Spades}{K-Hearts} and his opponent {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}. The community cards came {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, and Benyamine was suddenly left with a short stack.

He would be eliminated shortly thereafter, leaving early after arriving late.
