Day 1b Started

Welcome To Day 1b Of The World Poker Tour Malta Main Event!

Hello and welcome to a scorching Malta where in just a few minutes the players who have chosen Day 1b as their starting fight for the WPT Malta Main Event will take to their seats in the vast tournament area of the Casino at Portomaso.

We are expecting a much larger crowd than yesterday with a whole host of players re-entering after busting out on Day 1a including the back-to-back WPT champion Marvin Rettenmaier. There should also be a splattering of big name pros entering the foray including Vanessa Selbst, Jason Mercier, Kara Scott, Giovanni Rizzo, Tony G and many more.

Like yesterday, we will be playing eight 60-minute levels with a 75-minute dinner break after the sixth level. This means we should be bagging and tagging for around 23:00 CET.

Hold onto your hats, this should be a great day of poker!

A Few Famous Faces

We have spotted a few famous faces on our first scout of the room and one table in particular has caught our attention. Table 3 is the home to Kara Scott, Steve van Zadelhoff, Ronnie Bardah and Fabrice Soulier, which is far from ideal from any of the trio currently seated there.

Rizzo Rivered?

Giovanni Rizzo's surname translates to "River" and we think he may have been beaten on the street with no name.

Marco Bognanni opened from the button and then called as Rizzo three-bet from the big blind. The pair shared a flop reading {q-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{q-Spades}, a flop that Rizzo bet 800 on and Bognanni called.

That was the last of the betting as the players checked through the {9-Diamonds} turn and the {k-Diamonds} river Bognanni taking down the pot with his {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}.

Huntly Being Very Active

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Gordon Huntly
Gordon Huntly

Gordon Huntly and Fabrice Soulier have been quite active over on Table 3 and an interesting dynamic could be starting to form — especially with Huntly showing a probably bluff.

In the first hand Huntly opened to 225 from under the gun, Fabrice Soulier called on the button and Steven van Zadelhoff called in the big blind. The fop came down {j-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Spades} and the action checked to Soulier who tested the waters with a 300 bet. Van Zadelhoff folded but Huntly stuck along and made the call.

The turn was the {Q-Hearts}, Huntly checked, Soulier bet 500 but then folded when Huntly check-raised to 1,550.

Shortly afterwards Huntly opened to 250 from middle position and picked up callers in the shape of Soulier and this time Ronnie Bardah in the big blind. The flop came down {6-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades} and when the action checked to Huntly, the Scot bet 600 and both opponents folded. As they did Huntly showed them a {7-}.

"A seven?!" Bardah exclaimed, bringing a wry smile to the lips of Huntly.

Milan Keeps It Simple

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Sometimes keeping things simple at the poker table can yield the best results as Pierre Milan is testament to.

The action folded to Milan on the button and he tossed on three red chips worth a combined 300. The small blind folded but Johan Guilbert made the call from the big blind.

After burning a card the dealer put the {3-Spades}{k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}, Guilbert checked, Milan bet just half the pot and it was enough to get the job done.
