Matas Cimbolas Ends Day 1b of the 2015 WPTN London Accumulator Atop

Matas Cimbolas leads after day 1b

It was a last-minute decision of Matas Cimbolas to enter the second of three starting flights in the 2015 partypoker World Poker Tour National London £200 No-Limit Hold'em Accumulator at Aspers Casino. The 2014 WPT Nottingham champion and recent EPT Deauville eighth-place finisher stormed through the field and claimed an astonishing 169,200 in chips. That was good enough to make him the current overall leader.

Kevin Allen was another player to put his fingerprint on Day 1b with 130,200, and Anthony Mitchell's 124,200 eclipsed the 104,000 of Day 1a chip leader Lucio Pacifico

The second flight's field size was slightly lower with 177 entries, but it did increase the total number of entries to 370. Of those, 83 players bagged up chips at the end of Day 1b.

James Dempsey was among the notables to hit the rail today, but he still has the chance to play again in the third and final flight that will begin tonight at 8 p.m. UK time. The same goes for Aleksandar Spadijer and defending champion Gabriel Tuna.

WPT Champions Club member Tony Dunst was down to as low as 5,800 at one point today, but he bagged up 74,500. Surinder Sunar added another 47,900 to his stack, with Gareth Smirthwaite being not too far behind on 47,600. James Akenhead busted on Day 1a, but he went on to claim 40,100 in chips for Day 2 from this flight. That may still increase depending on the outcome of Day 1c.

Boulden Busts Dempsey

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
James Dempsey
James Dempsey

Benjamin Boulden raised and had two black T-1,000 chips in front of him before the action got to James Dempsey. The Brit moved all in for 6,575. "You don't have to call," Dempsey told to his opponent but Boulden grabbed a T-5,000 chip and tossed it in with the words "guess I am live".

"What's going on here Watto, I thought you had control over this table?" Dempsey joked to his table neighbor Steven Watts when he saw the {J-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} of Boulden, racing against his own {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}. Dempsey didn't like the {9-Clubs} {10-Spades} {8-Clubs} flop at all and his request to the dealer to pair the board was not granted. While the {5-Diamonds} turn was a blank, the {Q-Diamonds} river gave Boulden the straight.

Gabriel Tuna

After an open raise from under the gun, a call and a raise by a player in middle position, Gabriel Tuna moved all in for 11,000 chips to steal the pot or double up back to starting stack with {A-} {K-}. The opponent in middle position called with {A-} {Q-} and spiked a queen on the flop to send the defending champion to the rail on day 1b.

In about one hour from now at 2 p.m. UK time, the second flight of the £ 200 No Limit Hold'em partypoker WPT National London Accumulator will kick off at the Aspers Casino in Stratford. Yesterday's Day 1a attracted a field of 193 entries of which 94 bagged up chips for Day 2 on Saturday. However, that may not be their final starting stack on the hunt for the money yet as everybody is welcome to play all three of the flights in order to accumulate chips.

Not only does Day 1b take place today but also the third and final flight at 8 p.m. UK time. Both heats feature a starting stack of 20,000 chips and eight 30-minute levels. Once the three flights are completed, the stacks will then be combined for level nine at blinds 600-1,200 and a running ante of 200. World Poker Tour champions club member Tony Dunst will be playing today after making the trip over the pond and arriving earlier this morning.

Other players expected to take another shot at the guaranteed prize pool of £ 100,000 are defending champion Gabriel Tuna, Gareth Smirthwaite, Tristan Chaplin, Sinem Melin and James Akenhead. Chip leader thus far after Day 1a is Lucio Pacifico with 104,000 and he was the only player to bag up six digits. The vast majority of partypoker online qualifiers has not played yet and can also take advantage of free drinks and merchandising articles at the exclusive lounge.

The PokerNews team will be there to catch as much of the action as possible on the way to crown a new WPT National champion on Sunday.
