Similar to the opening flight of the 2025 WPT Prime Thailand Exhibition Championship Event, the 37,000 Baht flagship tournament was buzzing with action on the sixth floor of the Emsphere Mall on the bustling Sukhumvit Road. With Day 1a coming to a conclusion, the waiting line at the registration desk took a while to settle but brought with it an even bigger field of 663 entries once the registration had closed at the start of level ten.
Upon completion of level 15, only 154 players bagged up chips and a duo separated themselves from the rest of the pack. Jiajun Liu bagged up an incredible 742,000 in chips and the only one somewhat close was Chi Wei Lo who scored a memorable triple knockout with ace-king against three lower pairs to make it through with 604,000.

Held in cooperation between PokerTalk Thailand and WPTGlobal, the first-ever government approved live poker event in the Kingdom of Thailand has now already reached nearly 1,200 entries and another two starting days are to follow to further boost that already impressive figure for the debut at UOB LIVE in the heart of Bangkok.
Among the notable big stacks returning at noon local time are Bo Ouyang (428,000), Shaoming Li (409,000), former EPT Barcelona Main Event finalist Jianwei Lin (357,000), Alex Wice (339,000), Philippe Clerc (308,000), and Vincent Chauve (217,000).
Similar to Day 1a, the action will resume with level 16 at blinds of 4,000-8,000 and a big blind ante of 8,000. As many 20-minute levels will be played to reach the top 12.5% of the field with 83 survivors as the target. However, players must bag up chips to secure a portion of the prize pool in form of travel funds.
When the cards go back in the air at noon local time for the conclusion of Day 1b, many of those who failed the previous day may already be waiting for their seat assignments as Day 1c is scheduled to kick off at the same time. The penultimate flight is expected to be busy once more and will be followed by Day 1d at 4 p.m. local time. Both of these heats will play to the money today and all Day 1 survivors then return on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 6 p.m. local time.
The PokerNews updates for today will focus on the conclusion of Day 1b first before switching to Day 1c, with final chip counts for the last flight to be provided later at night.

With four minutes left in the level, the clocks were stopped and each table concluded the last two hands before bagging and tagging for the night. By that time, around 160 players were left and a few less of them bagged up chips for the night. All survivors will return at noon local time to play down to the money for the second starting day.
During the final stages of the night, Liu Huan was involved in a coin flip against Javed Ansari as the following showdown unfolded.
Liu Huan: A♣Q♦
Javed Ansari: J♦J♣
The K♠9♦8♥3♠2♥ board provided no help for the paint cards and that spelled the end for Huan.

South Korea's Jong Hyun Song was in need of help when he got his stack of around half the average into the middle preflop with 4♠4♣, as he was crushed by another player with the 10♦10♣. The K♦6♣5♠8♠7♥ runout provided the straight on the river for the fortunate double.
Calvin Tan mentioned he would have held the winning hand.

There was some uproar over on table 16 as several players jumped out of their seats, with three shorter stacks all-in and at risk against Chi Wei Lo.
Chuan Feng: 5♠5♣
Human Ma: 7♦7♥
Avganim London: 8♦8♠
Chi Wei Lo: A♦K♥
The three pocket pairs fell behind on the K♣10♥9♥9♣3♥ board and Lo reduced the table to short-handed action. London had been at risk for more than average and that vaulted Lo among the chip leaders.

Vietnam's Thi My Phuong Nguyen had been hiding almost all of her face behind shades and the hood of her jacket for most of the day while chirping very vividly in Vietnamese no matter if she was in the hand or not.
The most recent showdown hand saw her up against Ooh Kian Yeow and they checked the river of an ace-king high board and Yeow showed the K♥5♣ for second pair. Nguyen had that beat with K♦Q♣ for the superior kicker and that won the pot, followed by more excited chatter in her native language.

It had already been announced previously that level 15 would be the last one for tonight and the Day 1b field has plummeted to fewer than 200 hopefuls with currently 188 players left out of 663 entries. Only the top 83 are set to advance, which means that more than half of the field will bag up and return tomorrow only to leave empty-handed.
