Samaha Straightens Finger

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Bernard Samaha has been on a slippery slope for the past couple of levels but he has earned himself a brief respite from losing his chips after he doubled up through Martin Finger.

Finger opened to 500 from the cutoff seat and then called the extra 1,000 when Samaha moved all-in from the big blind.

Finger:{a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}
Samaha:{q-Spades}{j-Hearts}

The board ran out {3-Spades}{2-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and Samaha won with an unlikely straight.

Twist of Cates

Daniel Cates is playing a lot of hands but his chip stack doesn't seem to be going anywhere in particular. He'd fired 1,800 in a three-way pot with the first of his two opponents making it 4,000, the second opponent folded and Cates made the call.

Both players checked the {8-Spades} turn before Cates quickly led out for 7,500 on the {K-Hearts} river. His opponent let out a very audible sigh and released his hand. Cates is back up to his starting stack.

Much Abdo About Nothing

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

The action folded around to Kelly Kim in the hijack seat and the man who finished eighth in the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event raised to 650. The action then folded to Naji Abdo in the big blind and he called.

The dealer placed the {k-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{6-Clubs} on the felt and Abdo check-called an 800 continuation-bet from Kim. That was the end of the betting as both players checked down the {7-Hearts} turn and {j-Spades} river, Abdo winning the pot with his {A-Hearts}{j-Clubs}.

Shashkov Check Raise Forces Nitsche To Fold

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Dominik Nitsche saw the action fold to him in the hijack and after a quick peek at his holecards made it 650 to play. His only customer was Denis Shashkov in the small blind.

The pair saw the dealer fan out the {3-Spades}{q-Clubs}{a-Hearts} flop, a flop that Shashkov checked. Nitsche took a stab at the pot with a continuation bet of 800 but his cards hit the muck as quick as Shashkov check-raised to 2,500.

Shashkov then showed {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}, which knowing Nitsche was definitely the best hand!

Khalil Throws In The Tawil

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Khalil Tawil's tournament is over after he came off much worse than Turker Baloglu over on Table 10.

It was Baloglu who opened the betting with a raise to 700 and he found callers in the shape of Gaelle Baumann on the button and Tawil in the big blind. The trio shared a {6-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{q-Clubs} flop and Tawil checked. Baumann thought Baloglu had also checked and she inadvertently checked out of turn. Baloglu then bet 1,500 and Baumann folded.

Tawil did not fold though, instead he raised all in for around 8,000 and Baloglu quickly called.

Tawil: {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Baloglu: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

Tawil needed some help from the board but it failed to arrive as the turn and river were the {8-Hearts} and {6-Clubs} respectively and we lost another player here in Cyprus.

Julio Back Up

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Julio Belluscio is a colourful (or colorful in the US) character from what we've seen so far, he also has an unorthodox style which is somewhat confusing to his opponents.

He fired out 800 on a {K-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs} flop against one such foe - the latter making it 3,500 which Belluscio quickly called.

The {K-Diamonds} on the turn had Belluscio donk-lead for 1,000 and this time his opponent just called before they both checked the {3-Spades} river.

Belluscio turned over {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and declared, "Winner, right?"

His opponent folded. The Spaniard has about 40,000 at the moment.

Invaded Zim

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Zimnan Ziyard is finding it fairly tough going today again, not only does he have to deal with Daniel Cates on his table but other players are playing back at him too.

With the board reading {9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{10-Diamonds} Ziyard had fired a bet of 3,500 only to be min-raised to 7,000. Ziyard only had about 17,000 behind and had to fold, his opponent showed {2-Diamonds}{2-Spades} - the Brit tapping the table, not doing quite as well as his Olympic compatriots...
