Lynch Gets There on the River

Eric Lynch
Eric Lynch
It was a sweat for Eric "Rizen" Lynch, but he got there in the end. Sitting in the big blind, Lynch called a minimum-raise from late position. A series of raises ensued on a flop of {4-Spades} {6-Clubs} {2-Clubs}, with the short-stacked Lynch being the first one to move all in. His opponent insta-called with {7-Diamonds} {7-Clubs}, a hand that was ahead of Lynch's {6-Spades} {5-Spades}. The turn fell {Q-Hearts}, a card that did not improve Lynch. Down to one last card, Lynch nailed a gutshot straight the with {3-Spades} to double up to 33,000.

Deeb Does the Deed

We pick up the action on the flop in a heads-up pot involving Shaun Deeb. In this battle of the blinds, the board read {10-Spades} {5-Clubs} {5-Hearts}, and both players checked.

Fourth street was the {J-Diamonds}, and Deeb led out with a bet of 1,100. His opponent quickly called.

The river came the {4-Diamonds}. Deeb bet about 10,000, enough to put his man all in. His opponent obliged, making the call and putting himself at risk. Deeb tabled {5-Spades} {8-Diamonds}, and it was the winner. The unknown player slipped his cards back to the dealer, stood up from his seat, and made his way towards the door.

Young "All In and Ahead"

Pluria Marshall came into the pot from middle position, and the action folded around to Jason Young. From the small blind, he moved all in for his last 3,975, and Marshall looked him up, putting Young's tournament life in jeopardy.

Showdown:
Marshall: {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs}
Young: {A-Clubs} {8-Diamonds}

"I'm all in and ahead," Young said loudly, looking around the room to see who was interested. He wouldn't be ahead for long though.

Right in the door came the {A-Hearts}, but the flop was a complete disaster for Young as it read {A-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {K-Clubs}. Marshall had flopped the straight with the big re-draw as well, and Young was on the brink. The turn gave him a glimmer of hope as the {A-Diamonds} peeled off, improving the at-risk pro to trip aces. Like a bolt of lightning, the {K-Hearts} struck the turn, making Young the come-from-behind full house and earning him the crucial double up. He's back up over the 9,000 mark.

Better Make it a Double

Patrick Stemper
Patrick Stemper
Patrick Stemper just put in his first after-dinner drink order (he was one of several people pounding vodka and Red Bull before dinner). As the waitress was leaving the table, Stemper looked down at his short stack and shouted out, "Can you come back as fast as possible? I'm probably gonna be gone."

Back at It

The dinner break has come and gone, and play has resumed. There are still a ton of empty seats as the players continue to file back in from a hectic search for open restaurants. We'll play on deep into the night until we reach 27 players or the end of level twelve.

Taylor on the High Horse Again

After a promising start to the day, Esther Taylor's tournament took a rocky turn the last few hours. She righted things with one hand. Four players took a limped flop of {J-Spades} {7-Spades} {9-Diamonds}. Action passed to a player in middle position, who opened for 1,000. Taylor check-raised to 5,000. That folded everyone back to the player who opened the action. The chips were soon in the middle. Taylor's opponent showed {7-Hearts} {9-Clubs}; he was far behind Taylor's flopped straight with flush and straight flush re-draw {10-Spades} {8-Spades}. The board ran out {6-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} to give Taylor a double-up to 30,000.

McNiff's Hat a Topic of Conversation

Evan McNiff and his fancy hat
Evan McNiff and his fancy hat
Class clown Corwin Cole was just broken from our favorite table, and his seat was soon filled by Jason Young, who was unaware of what he was walking into.

Evan McNiff (who is at least 12 vodka and red bulls deep) started things off. "You look serious. You don't look like you're having fun." Young mumbled something and shrugged, in a bit of a sour mood after the woes of the last level. With two hands, McNiff illustrated Young's dilemma. "Up here, fun. Down here, money."

One again Young mumbled something inaudible. After a moment, he added. "It all depends on your chip stack. Right now, my chip stack is just right for drinking and making fun of your hat."

Indeed, 4,900 chips is the correct amount for making fun of McNiff's hat. The only saving grace for the outgoing hat wearer is that it belongs to someone else. In fact, it belongs to Frederick Halling, who has long since made his exit from the tournament. Hopefully, the ungainly head covering will bring better luck to McNiff.

Recent Departures

It hasn't been a good hour for 'M' names. Kyle Morris and Mickey "Mouse" Mills, each of whom had been rocking the short stack for a while, were recently eliminated.
