We've still got a couple of empty seats in the room, but the starting time has arrived. The cards are a'flying, and Day 2 is under way here in the Harrah's Ballroom.
Harry White was down around 30,000 chips when he got himself all in with the . Taemee Feuer came into the day with about 100,000 more chips than White, and she put him to the test, turning up to flip for a knockout.
And a knockout she would receive. The board ran , and that's that. White goes out, and Feuer moves up over 160,000 in the process.
From middle position, a short-stacked Peter Mavro moved all in for just about 20,000 total. Stanley Haythorne made the call from the button, and he was in a commanding spot when the cards were turned up:
Mavro:
Haythorne:
There was no love for Mavro as the board came to send him packing. Put Haythorne up over 90,000 with that pot as well.
There are now three empty seats at the lethal Table 1. The three missing amigos were eliminated in three consecutive hands, and amazingly, all three were done in by pocket aces.
The latest victim of that black void was Paul Volpe, and it was Josh Brikis doing the deed. We only ran over when we heard the "Seat open" call as Volpe stood up, so the details are sketchy. What we could see was Volpe's on the felt in front of his former chair, and Brikis' pulled in as the winning hand. The board showed five rags with two hearts, and we're not going to try and guess how the action transpired. However it started, it ended with Volpe's elimination and Brikis stacking a big stack of about 245,000.
We'll try to get some more details from Brikdog when we have a chance.
In middle position, Will Heger opened the pot to 7,500, and Artie Smith called in the cutoff seat. On the button, Ari Engel squeezed in a raise to 24,200, folding Heger but stringing Smith along to the flop.
The dealer spread out , and both players checked to the turn. Smith checked again, and Engel took his cue to bet 28,400 at the pot. No dice. Smith announced a raise but fumbled his chips for a few seconds and eventually was forced to make a minimum raise to 56,800. Engel called.
That brought the to the river, and Smith moved all in with the larger stack. Engel could not call; he surrendered his cards into the muck, dropping down to 115,000 in the process, less than half the stack he began with an hour ago. Smith, on the other hand, is doing quite well. He appears to be the chip leader, in fact, sitting pretty with about 315,000 in front of him.
With the action folded around to him in late position, Jonathan Wein moved his last 65,600 chips across the betting line. The table passed around to Yervand Boyadjian, and he squeezed his cards tight. The first one was apparently an ace as he pleaded, "Come on, come on, come on," as he slipped his fingers off the second card. It was good enough; "I call!" Boyadjian announced emphatically.
Showdown
Wein:
Boyadjian:
The flop was in Wein's neighborhood, coming to give him the pair and put him two cards from a double up. The turn was even better news, taking away one more out from his opponent. The river was safe and sound, and Boyadjian spun away from the table, dropping a few choice words as he pouted for a minute.
Wein's timely flop earns him the double up and a chip count of about 135,000 again.
