One of the more interesting stories coming into Day 2 was that of Tripp Kirk, who had won Event #17 ($555 6-Handed NLHE/213 players) for a gold circuit ring and a $25,220 payday. Kirk was looking to finish fifth or better in the Main Event to claim the title of Harrah's Tunica Casino Champion and qualify for the WSOPC National Championship.

Unfortunately for Kirk, his plans were tripped up. It happened when he moved all in for around 50,000 with {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} and was called by the {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} of Mary Harden. While Kirk managed to survive the {2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{J-Hearts} flop, the {A-Diamonds} on the turn gave Harden the lead. Kirk needed a nine on the river but it was not meant to be as the {6-Hearts} appeared. Kirk's Main Event and hopes of becoming Casino Champ have come to an end.
