Roppolo Takes a Hit

We picked up the action on the flop as the dealer rolled out {J-Spades} {6-Spades} {5-Spades}. Daniel Cohen checked, then called a bet from his lone opponent, Joseph Roppolo.

That brought them to the {4-Clubs} turn, and Roppolo bet 45,000 this time. Cohen check-called again, and the {K-Clubs} filled out the board on fifth street. Cohen checked again, and this time Roppolo made a healthier bet of 130,000. Surprisingly, Cohen check-raised all in for 215,000, and Roppolo sunk in his chair.

"Augh! You flopped it..." he said, trailing off. "I call."

Cohen had indeed flopped it, tabling his {K-Spades} {Q-Spades} to take down that pot. Roppolo has slipped back to 860,000 courtesy of that big pot.

A Milli For Reynolds

William Reynolds
William Reynolds

Just before the break...

Josh Kay opened the pot with a raise, and William Reynolds three-bet an additional 40,000. Kay reraised another 70,000 right back, and Reynolds called to see a flop.

It came {7-Spades} {4-Spades} {A-Hearts}, and Reynolds called a bet of 128,000. The {K-Clubs} turn drew another bet from Kay, 198,000 this time. Without missing a beat, Reynolds promptly moved all in for about 420,000 total. That did the trick; a frustrated Kay was forced to lay it down, and Reynolds has vaulted his way up over the million-chip mark.

Choi Doubles to One Million

Action folded to Casey Hayes on the button and he raised to 30,000. Edwin Choi reraised from the big blind to 90,000. Hayes then put in another reraise to 380,000. Choi moved all in for 473,000 and Hayes called.

Hayes: {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Choi: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

The flop gave Choi a set of nines with the {9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs} coming down. The turn was the {10-Hearts} and the river the {K-Spades}. Choi was able to double through on the last hand before the break and now has nearly a million chips. Hayes dropped back to two million.

Magnus Doubles

Nadezhda Magnus was all in for 142,000 from the big blind after three players had limped in. The first two limpers folded, but the last one in the small blind, Edwin Choi, called.

Choi held the {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}, but was dominated by the {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} for Magnus. The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and Magnus made a flush to double up.

Jewell Shines Brighter

Joseph Roppolo fired out 115,000 on the board of {A-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{K-Spades}. Kurt Jewell made the call and then the turn brought the {9-Hearts}. Roppolo fired 150,000 and Jewell made the call again. His {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} was the winning hand, beating out Roppolo's {A-Spades}{J-Hearts} with a better kicker. Roppolo dropped to about 1.4 million while Jewell increased to 1.325 million.

Hayes Crushing

Jim Kasputis checked to Casey Hayes on the board of {7-Clubs}{6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{5-Spades}. Hayes fired 75,000 and then Kasputis check-raised to 200,000. Hayes made the call and the river brought the {Q-Clubs}. Kasputis checked and Hayes fired 265,000. Kasputis mucked and dropped back to 310,000. Hayes increased to 2.5 million.
