Bye, Bye, Brady

Matt Brady
Matt Brady

First into the pot, John Farmakoulas limped in from the cutoff seat. Matt Brady called the extra 5,000 from the small blind, and the big blind knocked the table to see a free flop.

It came {9-Spades} {7-Hearts} {9-Hearts}, and the blinds checked. When Farmakoulas continued out with a bet of 20,000, Brady check-raised it to 45,000. That folded the big blind, but Farmakoulas wasn't going anywhere. He three-bet it to 145,000, Brady moved all in for 293,000 total, and the call came within a few seconds. Brady was at risk as the cards were turned up:

Farmakoulas: {K-Hearts} {2-Hearts}
Brady: {9-Diamonds} {4-Clubs}

The turn {K-Clubs} opened up a couple more outs for Farmakoulas, but he would not need to go runner-runner kings. The river {5-Hearts} filled his flush, and Brady offered a quiet, "Good game," as he made his way to the payout desk.

Magnus Doubles Through Calenzo

Kevin Calenzo opened with a raise to 23,000 from early position. Nadezhda Magnus reraised all in for 151,000 in middle position. After action folded back around to Calenzo, he made the quick call. He held the {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}, but was behind the {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} for Magnus.

The board ran out {Q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and Magnus earned the double up. She's now got 355,000 while Calenzo dropped to 425,000.

Dinner

We've reached the end of the level, and the players are headed out for a 75-minute dinner break. Play will resume at 8:20, so we'll see you then.

Torchinsky Burned; Rusch Slowing

Shawn Rusch opened to 18,000 from early position, and Daniel Cohen moved all in for 118,000 right next door. Across the table, Jeremy Torchinsky called all in for around 75,000, and Rusch had the closing action. "Well, what have I gotten myself into?!" he asked aloud. "I guess I can't fold now," he admitted, plunking the calling chips into the pot. Cards up, gents:

Rusch: {A-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}
Cohen: {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Spades}
Torchinsky: {A-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}

The board ran out {6-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {10-Spades} {K-Spades} {8-Clubs} to send the much-needed pot to Cohen. He's back over 300,000 now, while Rusch drops to 86,000. It could be worse though; just ask Torchinsky. He's out of chips, waiting for his escort to the payout desk as we speak.

Neufeld Folds River to Brady

Matt Brady
Matt Brady

Jason Neufeld, Matt Brady and William Reynolds all saw a flop together. Neufeld was first up after the {Q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades} fell in the middle of the table and he checked. Brady checked next and then Reynolds also checked.

Fourth street brought the {10-Clubs}, putting one of each suit on board. Neufeld fired out with a bet of 30,000. Brady cut out a call in front of him and then Reynolds folded, leaving plays heads up to the river.

The {10-Diamonds} paired the board on the river and Neufeld checked. Brady bet out what looked to be 70,000 and Neufeld folded his hand. Brady increased to 290,000 while Neufeld dropped back to 340,000.

Roviso Rebuilds

Robert Mitchell raised to 20,000 in early position, and he was called by Scott Clarke and Joseph Roppolo, both with position on him. In the blinds, though, Anthony Roviso squeezed out his hole cards and then squeezed the rest of his 86,000 chips into the pot. Mitchell considered for a while before re-shoving all in for about 155,000 additional chips. Back on Clark now, it looked like he was debating a tough decision. He had 126,000 chips left in front of him, fighting with a decision for his tournament life. He eventually, and reluctantly folded, and Roppolo also ducked out to let the other two duke it out.

"You got a pair?" Mitchell asked.

"No," came the reply. "I know I'm probably dominated." Indeed Roviso was, but probably not in the way he imagined. He turned up {A-Spades} {4-Spades}, and he would soon see he was in bad shape against Mitchell's {4-Clubs} {4-Hearts}.

Salvation would come from the dealer, though, as an ace on the flop left Mitchell shaking his head slowly back and forth. In the end, the {A-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {K-Spades} board punched Roviso's double-up ticket. He's back in contention with more than 250,000 now after nearly tripling up.
