Austin Buchanan was momentarily overtaken for the chip lead, but he has struck once again.
We picked up the action as Buchanan's table folded around to him on the button. He opened with a small raise to 9,000, and the big blind made a big three-bet to 34,000 total. Buchanan leaned across the rail to eye up his opponent's remaining stack, then called.
The flop came out , and the big blind announced an all in for about 65,000 total. Buchanan double-checked his cards and made a quiet call, turning up . The big blind was dead to runner-runner as he sheepishly tabled . "I'll take an eight or a nine," he said.
Turn:
That'll do it. The river was irrelevant as Buchanan had already locked up the knockout. Stacking his opponent's chips, Buchanan has once again moved into the chip lead with 555,000.
Jacob Naquin raised to 9,500 from middle position and Jerry Yang called from the hijack. Stuart Paterson re-raised all in for an additional 29,700 from the cutoff and action folded back to Naquin. He called, Yang folded, and the hands were turned up.
Paterson:
Naquin:
The board ran out as Naquin seemed destined to win the pot from the start, eliminating Paterson just before the dinner break.
We figured a "Toto" reference would be appropriate seeing as we are at a dog track and all.
In any event, the number on the big board has just ticked down to 99 as we have 11 tables full of players remaining in the field.
The dinner break is scheduled for the end of this level (in 17 minutes), and we'll play another five levels thereafter before we can close the books on Day 2.
When we walked up to the table, there was already a raise and a three-bet in the pot. As we approached, the initial raiser was four-betting to 70,000 total, and the action came back on Andrew Touchette. He took a bit of time considering his options before he five-bet shoved for 177,900 total. The two stacks were close, but the initial raiser was the one facing a decision for his tournament life. After several minutes in the tank, he made the call, and the cards were on their backs:
Touchette:
Opponent:
There was no funny stuff on the board that ran out , and the queens hold for Touchette. With that big elimination pot, he's moved himself all the way up to 345,000.
On a flop, Mike Minetti's bet of 15,000 chased away one opponent, but Josh Hillock stuck around and called. The turn card fell and Minetti fired 24,000. Hillock called again and when the hit the river, Minetti put out a small bet of 25,000. Hillock called, but saw the bad news when Minetti tabled for a flush.
Minetti: Up to about 260,000
Hillock: Down to 93,000
Day 1 chipleader Ryan Sponaugle shoved on the button for 85,500 and was called by the player in the big blind. Sponaugle tabled and was trailing his opponent's , but luckily for Sponaugle the board came down and he is now back up to a healthy 175,000.
