We've spotted the Brother Hinkle, Blair and Grant, in today's field. The former is already qualified for the WSOP-C National Championship after capturing the Main Event title in Council Bluffs. No doubt big brother Grant will be looking to join him, a feat he can accomplish by taking down this tournament.
Just before the break, John Adams became involved in a hand with a flop of . An under-the-gun player checked to Adams on the button and he promptly bet 1,000, which received a call. The dealer burned and turned the and again it went check, bet 2,500, and call.
When the hit the river, the UTG player checked, Adams fired out 5,000, and a call ensued. Adams showed for a flopped straight and it was enough to win the hand. He is up to around 38,000.
We've spotted a few more notables in today's field including:
Keith Woernle (WSOP-C St. Louis Ring Event #7 Winner)
Paul Harris (Co-host of "The Final Table" radio show w/ Dennis Phillips)
Aaron Massey
"Captain" Tom Franklin
We caught the action on the turn with a board reading . Dwyte Pilgrim checked and his opponent bet 1,500. Pilgrim then came alive with a check-raise to 3,000, his short-stacked opponent moved all in for 5,300, and Pilgrim called:
Pilgrim:
Opponent:
Pilgrim was behind with his aces and the river was no help. He dropped to 14,500 on the hand.
Dwyte Pilgrim, who was just in Connecticut yesterday where he busted from another major poker tournament, has made his way to today's Main Event. He just woke up from a nap and has taken his seat.
Likewise, "Cowboy" John Land has recently registered for the tournament.
The second ring event of the stop drew 709 players and generated a prize pool of $202,906. Among the entrants were some surprise names such as Grammy award-winning hip-hop artist and avid poker player, Nelly, and 1972 WSOP Champion and poker legend, Amarillo Slim Preston. The 82-year-old, four-time WSOP bracelet winner said: “I got a call from one of my cowboys to come up and play last week. I wasn’t doing anything so I decided to come on up.”
Unfortunately, neither Nelly nor Preston could get much done and the ring eventually went to 23-year-old Dan Sztenderowicz of Philadelphia, Pa.
