Troy Weber and Matthew Thornton created a pot of about 200,000 preflop and watched as the flop came down . Thornton moved all in for 124,000, Weber called, and the cards were turned up:
Weber:
Thornton:
Thornton was ahead with top pair and even added a straight draw when the hit the turn. His hand improved to trips when the was revealed on the river, ensuring him a double to 400,000. Meanwhile, Weber dropped to 730,000.
Now that the stacks are relatively deep, play has slowed a bit. The plan is to push through to a final table, or 2 AM, whichever comes sooner. We're hoping for the former.
Action folded to Ryan Sponaugle on the button and he moved all in only to get called by the big stack of Steve Goff in the big blind. Sponaugle held pocket fives but was in big trouble against the pocket queens of Goff. The board provided no relief and Sponaugle became the 18th-place finisher, good for $7,438.
With approximately 200,000 in the pot and a board reading , Mitch Franks bet 80,000, Chris Viox moved all in, and Franks called for his tournament life.
Viox:
Franks:
It was bad news for Viox as he was drawing dead. The inconsequential was put out on the river and Franks doubled to 800,000 while Viox was left with just 55,000.
Action folded to Doug Winters on the button and he moved all in for 50,000 holding . Steve Goff was next to act in the small blind and he raised to 90,000. Yury Parad then moved all in for the big blind for 300,000 with and Goff opted to fold face up.
Winters was in bad shape and couldn;t find help as the board ran out . He was eliminated from the Main Event in 19th place while Parad chipped up to 500,000.
Action folded to Kyle Cartwright in late position and he raised to 28,000. Terry Stuhldreher then shoved all in from the small blind for 460,000! Cartwright made the quick call and found himself in a dominating position.
Stuhldreher:
Cartwright:
The flop gave Stuhldreher an open-ended straight draw, which made things quite interesting. The changed nothing, and Stuhldreher needed a six, nine, or jack on the river to stay alive. It was not meant to be, however, as the peeled off. Stuhldreher was eliminated in 22nd hand while Cartwright vaulted into the chip lead with 1.6 million.
